Planning away

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Thanks for the welcoming back friends :) I really did miss you guys!

So after that last blog I felt the need to write about the things I am doing now for a successful trip with weight loss.

1. Stop estimating how many calories are in the food I eat.
Seriously, I have no idea why I do that. Guess what? I can’t by looking at food figure out how many calories are in any food, as I’m sure most humans can’t. I either under or overestimate the calorie numbers. Which is stupid, I have sparkpeople and the internetz, there really isn’t an excuse for guessing. So yeah, stop it!

2. Exercise. Exercise. Exercise.

Seriously exercise, don’t skip day or weeks. It’s dumb, really really really really dumb. I can’t stress that enough.

3. So you stopped going to the gym…what’s your plan?
Yep I did, it was stupid to stop going but I did, I no longer have a membership BUT I have plenty of equipment at home, it’s just a matter of priorities. Yes my schedule is chaotic.

I work full time and I have to cook and clean for my son, husband and my two dogs (I got another puppy sqeeeee) I also do photography on the side so yeah my schedule is full BUT there is always time to sit and watch tv. Would I rather continue to watch tv and get fatter or squeeze in some exercise and loose this damn weight, and hey I can still watch tv while I exercise. Sounds like a good compromise to me. So this past week I have done just that and I actually love it and enjoy the alone time while and I actually get to watch what I want!

4. Buy more weight aids

I actually just bought a fat monitor and a new scale from amazon AND I am going to be buying some weights so I can get back to deadlifting…god I miss it and I miss my toned arms. I actually found a set on Walmart for around $40. So buy any kind of weight loss related items, I will have my own home gym muahahaaa. Since I don’t have good weights at the moment, I will be doing lots of pushups and triceps dips.

5. Think before you eat
This is something I have been working on for years, and I’m pretty happy that I have been doing well with no binging/purging or not eating at all. This was a huge issue for me in the past. Still I like to think before I eat, am I eating out of boredom, sadness, am I hungry do I really want this? Yep I have to think before I eat. That never goes away.

6. Ask for help
I told my husband that I gained weight and I need to get back on track, hes such a sweetheart though and even if he noticed it he wouldn’t say so and probably doesn’t notice. I told him that I need to work out and I need him to watch our son while I do it. He said no problem. I told him I wanted cable in the room where my elliptical is, so he put it in there. When it wasn’t working he put the computer in there and said “Hey you can watch Netflix!” He seriously has been helping me so much. Everyone needs help.

7 Plan your day
This gets hard for me. I get at times super obsessive with weight loss and then it gets too hard to grasp but I need to track and plan my day without going nuts. I pack my food for the day either at night or early in the morning, and I also plan what’s for dinner and I don’t feel all OCD about it either.

It isn’t always going to be easy put with a plan it get a heck of a lot more easier.

I so seriously over-estimate calories when I don't measure and look them up. I'll often think I've eaten a good 500-750 calories more than I actually have! It's ridiculous.

Wonderful plans :-) You're going to do awesome! A home gym is the best. So many fewer excuses if it is right in your house!

I believe in you! Do you have resistance bands yet? I got a set for my birthday and they are amazing. They take up very little space and you can replicate virtually any gym machine strength exercise with them. I think I have this set. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Mountai

It's funny that you posted stop estimating how many calories you eat. I came to a point where I was so obsessed with serving sizes and portions that I had all the calories for my most eaten items memorized. Throughout the day I would tally everything I ate in my head and it made me so neurotic. I still am mindful of my calorie intake for the day, but don't let it consume every single of my thoughts any longer. Good luck to you and happy planning.

I am terrible at tracking my food....but I am really pushing for more cardio and gym time...and consciencely going after healthy foods! I made my own fruit leathers (fruit roll ups) with just strawberries, blueberries and flax seed. NO sugar! And I think they taste great! And flax = a bonus!
