Sparkpeople sent me an email this morning saying that I won a trophy. Huh? In general I find virtual awards more or less ersatz praise. Or well I did before this morning. :) So I went out and logged in to see what "trophy" I had won. As it turns out, in the first 16 days of January, I have logged over 500 Fitness minutes. What!?!?! Me???
I'm willing to wager that in the last five YEARS, I hadn't amassed a total of 500 exercise minutes. So this new me didn't WIN a "trophy"... she EARNED it.
How awesome. I bought a Fitbit 2 months ago. I hate to exercise and have done walking in the past which was never made into a habit. Funny thing about the Fitbit. I like seeing the numbers! I have been doing 10,000 steps since I got it. I now have lots of friends with one also and we have linked our scores and I have found it extremely motivating. I have had many days that I did not want to walk and had excuses not to walk but I did.
I put on my headphones and music and prompt myself to walk one more song or 500 more steps and before I know it I am at my 10,000 steps! Last month Fitbit sent my monthly walking records and said I had walked the Bering Strait!!!!! I too was not impressed with trophys but find this works for me!
