Caterpillar: The Feeding Stage
Many of us were programmed either by our childhood, or life events
to relate to food choices in ways that weren’t ideal.
That’s a mindset that takes years to retrain.
It doesn’t help that there are is an overwhelming selection
of unhealthy processed foods, filled with sugars, bad fats, and bad carbs .
Even a lot of the healthy stuff we need, gets processed and sold
in a form that is surrounded by bad fats, and bad carbs.

It’s addictive stuff …So as caterpillars we ate and ate and ate.
It made us fat, and sluggish, and (by social standards) unattractive.
It made us easy prey for Crows who love to mock and eat away our self-esteem.
It made it hard for us to move fast, so we were slow to exercise.

As the caterpillar grows it splits its skin and sheds it about 4 or 5 times.
Food eaten at this time is stored and used later as an adult.
{just look at my belly fat}.
Caterpillars can grow 100 times their size during this stage.
{frustration, complacency, resignation, and depression all kick in}.

We got tired of crawling along so...
A lot of us formed a chrysalis around ourselves.
We protected ourselves from exposure,
Binged in private, and locked away dreams.
Your world gets trapped under that protective covering
And it really cramps your style.
We suspended our lives, hid behind our size, and
buried our desire to do things,
because we believed we would expose ourselves to
unwanted criticism and humiliation.

This stage may have lasted years.
And It may look like nothing was going on
but big changes were happening inside.

But emerging from that unhealthy lifestyle isn’t easy
It’s damn hard work.
It comes in stages…step by step.
It requires you to squirm, and push yourself,
And come out of hiding, and pump, and move.
There are times when you will feel stuck and nothing seems to give.
There are times when you may need to wiggle back and forth,
And nothing seems to budge,
But sooner or later something jiggles loose
and you will see the person you were meant to be.

Celebrate the need to stretch yourself and expand your world.
Get comfortable with change.
And during this entire struggle you may find yourself
Subject to sabotage by those crows
Or even to the echoes of their toxic calls
But believe in yourself and all that you can be

You are beautiful
You are free and

And once you emerge
You must never go back to living like a caterpillar
There are no ugly butterflies
