The past three days have been a challenge. Sunday night was our monthly dinner at Pizza Hut to celebrate my son's reading accomplishments. Normally my husband and I would split a large supreme pizza!! I always feel like I am in an eating competition with him. If I don't eat as much as I can, as fast as I can, I won't get any food. I had to really step back and take a look at what I was doing. So before our trip to the restaurant I did some soul searching and investigating. I decided that I was not going to skip out on pizza hut, but instead, I was going to set a reasonable number of pieces of pizza that I could eat without over doing it. I was able to eat three pieces of veggie lovers pizza without going too far over my daily calorie and fat limits. I took my time eating by using a fork and a knife and we actually had pizza left over for my husband to take to work the next day! It felt really good to only eat what I had set out to eat.
I used to think that the only way I could get over my urges to snack and eat a well balanced diet was to eliminate all the foods, that tempted me, from our house. Unfortunately, that is a very unrealistic idea. My husband and kids are not on diets, they do not over eat and the foods are not really that unhealthy. I am learning to keep all our food in the cupboards where I cannot see them and to not finish my kids food for them. We put leftovers in the fridge for later or for dad!!
