Special People It Could Be You.

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Today I took MIL to pt. While there my van wouldn't start. Another patient got me going again. Here in Nashville we had 70 degree weather then 28 within 24 hours. It kill a cell in it. We are going to replace it Saturday when its 50 out rather than do it now. I pray we don't get stranded anywhere this week. If we do I'll deal with it then. We will be around people so it shouldn't be a problem getting help if we need it. Worse case I'll call roadside. Mine can only be used twice a year.

I got MIL home before the sleet hit. That turned out not to be so bad either.

When I got home, I had 3 letters waiting on me.

1. from my Aunt. I wrote her back. We are planning our get together for some time in May.

2. Every year for the last 20 or so years, I've sent a Christmas card to one of my favorite teachers. For the last several years I've not received a card in return but a phone call. She didn't call this year. I've been meaning to call her since Christmas. I got a letter from her son. She passed away at 82. I'm glad she isn't suffering anymore. She had health issues. She was on oxygen, but never smoked.

3. From my Cousin. My Aunt's youngest child. What a surprise!! I have to share the card: A Special Thank You. Acts of kindness warm the heart, soothe the soul, and make the world turn more gently, Its nice to kknow that there are still people who take such pleasure in doing special things and making others feel good...Thank You. You're really someone special. A note was included: Thank you so much fore the blanket you sent for Christmas. (I had picked her up a throw at a yard sale or Goodwill and give it to her this year.)

This is what got me the wonderful card: when I went to KY last May for a visit. I got to go to a lunch with this cousin I haven't seen in 20ish years. I was able to see her cute farm house and meet her dog too. I found she was in a car accident a few years ago, in which her afghan that Grandma made while she was dieing of cancer, was destroyed. I offered then and there to make her another one. In the note she sent me, she said, "Once I get to Walmart, I'll get back with you with my colors for the afghan. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS. Thank you again for everything. You're so kind and caring."

I'm excited I can do this for her. I told her I would get it to her for Christmas, but don't hold me to a year. LOL!! It may take me some time to get it done. I also will be paying for it. I'm not sure yet how much yarn it will take. Its a ripple design. I've got to find a pattern yet too.

Grandma made all 5 grand kids one. She made them with a child in mind. Like me with the pink room, she made the pink one. The blue one was for the only boy. However when we saw them, 3 of the 4 girls wanted the pink one. I didn't. LOL!! I was sick of that color by then. 13 years in a pink room will do that to you. Grandma in her wisdom, put numbers on them 1-5. She put numbers 1-5 in a hat and mixed them up. We drew say 3, you got 3. I got a beautiful green one. It has white and 3 shades of green in it. This cousin got the blue one. I can't remember the shades but she does, so I asked her to go to Walmart-one on every corner-to write down the color code. Now die lots will cause a slight change but not that much. She is going to get me a list. I would LOVE to have it done for when I see the Aunt in May, but if not that is okay too. It might be better to deliver it next year when it is my turn to go north. I would LOVE see the look on her face when she opens it. But I might need to let her know that she isn't getting it in this year's package so she isn't disappointed.

BTW--This is the cousin that I was very mean to once. Not an accuse but I wondered if she held a grudge against me. After the card, I don't think so. I'm glad to put my skills to use for someone that I was mean too, that will appreciate it, and LOVE IT!!

Also, the Science teacher jumped up and down for joy at the blanket I made for her. She was VERY surprised to receive a gift for child number 4! I found something in the garage for her too. I wonder if I get out there every week, if I could come up with something to give her once a week for the rest of the year. Hmmmm......That does help me get rid of stuff. Hmmmm.....will that help the kids get an A? Can you bribe a teacher? LOL!!

Back to the point of this blog; sometimes there are special people in the world. Sometimes it is YOU. I loved the timing of the card, when a special person helped me, I'm that person to someone else.

What a lovely blog. Just goes to show what we already knew - You're one very generous, giving, thoughtful and kind person!
You made me LOL at the end about bribing the teacher. Hey, it's always worth a try, plus if helps clean out the garage, more power to ya!

Now, I know your cousin is going to love the gift, no matter how long it takes to get it to her. It will be worth the wait, especially since it comes from the heart.

Amazing how the simple act of thanking someone, sincerely, can brighten their day and warm their hearts. Too bad more people do not think to do that.

Very sweet story about you and your cousin :) My grandmother made all the grandkids matching sweaters at one point. I'm the only one that still has it - not that it gets any wear nowadays! There are plenty of pictures of us all wearing them together though :)
