Feelings Expressed

Monday, January 14, 2013

I didn't blog yesterday - I took Sunday as a rest day. After church we spent the afternoon with friends - they took us out to Applebees. I was tired from the weekend so in the evening I just sat on the couch, cross stitched and watched a two-parter Matlock.

Today, I usually have only 2 daycare kids, but I ended with all 5, even the 1st grader. His school was closed because of frozen pipes. It was in the single digits today with a low of -2F.

I was very tired today - another day where I pushed through. I read some more in the book No More Fatigue by Jack Challem. It had some good info in it.

A spark friend said one of her goals this year is to blog her feelings not just what she does. That has encouraged me to do the same...

I will see my doctor on Wed for the results of my blood work. I am a little frustrated with him right now for a number of reasons. One...I go in saying I am extremely exhausted and having difficulty losing weight. He immediately says I have sleep apnea. Huh?? He goes ahead and orders blood work to rule out metabolic syndrome, low thyroid, pre-diabetes, & cortisol. But he is absolutely sure I have sleep apnea. I doubt it because my husband says I rarely snore.
Two...he prescribes an appetite suppressant. He says he takes it too. I look at him and think "I am definitely not going to take it. He is obese himself." Plus I don't like popping pills. I get home and look it up and I find out a side effect is insomnia. WHAT??!!
Three...He gives me 3 sample boxes of a sleep aid. At home I look it up and it says don't take if you have sleep apnea---and that is what his diagnosis it?????
Four..I asked to have a saliva test done to check for adrenal fatigue and he refused.
Oh, well I will make a decision after I see him.

Daily Goals:
1) Blog -- emoticon
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes. emoticon 22 min treadmill
3) Eat at least 3 freggies a day.. emoticon 5 servings

Might be time for a new doctor. My insurance would not pay for a saliva test, we paid for it.

I agree with you about your doctor. When I lived up north there were few doctors and I was lucky to find one who was accepting new patients. The doctor was very over weight, diabetic and walked with a cane. I never talked to him about my weight issues as I started gaining weight.

I too am thinking of changing doctors, mine never seems pro-active, I have to tell him what's wrong and what a possible fix could be.

Have a great week Carrie!

I hope you'll be willing to share the results of the blood test. My mother's doctor was extremely obese, never said anything about her weight (which was causing a multitude of problems), but she kept going to him because he saved her tons of money giving her samples of some of her prescribed medicines. He's also been my grandmother's doctor and was a very kind man.

We keep our doctors for all kinds of reasons, but I am presently looking for one that has a more natural approach, myself. They are hard to find, especially ones that are on health care plans.

After having chronic bronchitis/colds for several years, I went to a Chinese doctor in the area who did not have a U.S. license to practice as a physician. After two visits, he stopped the ongoing problem. The first visit? $35, including the two remedies he gave me. The second included $45 worth of herbs in the form of 5 paper bags, with instructions on how to use them. As a amateur herbalist myself, I was quite interested in the bags' contents. There were at least 22 different herbs in there, none of which I recognized. After spending a couple hundred $$ going to 3 different medical doctors, I was quite impressed with the resulting health the Chinese doctor gave me.

Don't give up looking for a good answer. We are truly in charge of our own health; no one person has all the answers.

Yvonne

P.S. Thanks for visiting my blog today. Yes, 7 hours of sleep felt good, and I'm thinking that taking the 30 minute walk yesterday was a big contributor to that. Though I "walk" with Leslie Sansone and her videos, it's not the same thing as being out in the fresh air.

Others have said it all so well ... can you get a 2nd opinion? Will be interesting to see what the blood tests show. The sleep test sounds like a good idea, though. I would sure ask about the meds! Praying right now that God will open the right doors for you to get some answers. Hugs, Susie

I agree, good to check out all the meds. Too many times docs prescribe a pill when there are other ways to handle a problem. Good luck.

It is frustrating how often doctors think sleep apenea is the problem. I had the sleep test and do not have it - but I am glad I had the test so no one can jump to that conclusion. I used to snore but stopped after losing about 40 pounds.
I think you need a new doctor!

Do you have access to a doctor who practices a more 'natural' medicine? We have an M.D. here who will prescribe traditional medicine when warranted, but also has good solutions with other alternatives. You need to feel confident in your doctor, and this doesn't just seem like a good fit for you.

I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. When I don't use it, I am exhausted but I will say that I sleep like a baby most nights and am well rested in the morning. Sleep apnea is not always connected to snoring so it would be wise to get a sleep test, especially if you are always tired. And I would say I think you should shp around for a new doctor. At least get yourself referred to a sleep clinic.

I feel your frustration over getting the right results from your Dr. I battle the same situation and have been told I have the sleep apnea. But I don't think that is the problem.

You were wise to look things up and recheck even if your Dr. did give it to you.

I think, as patients we have to be on our toes and check out what a Dr. is telling us, giving us and etc. A lot of the time I think, they are just baffled by it as we are.

If we continue to eat for our health, exercise and be moderate in all that we do, we should see the weight coming off and hopefully we will feel better, too.

Time for a new Dr. I feel fortunate as i have a super jog for my foot dr and regular dr. He believes in healthy diet and exercise lifestyle change never diet he honors what i have done and encourages me to continue when i told him i was in therapy for binge eating he didn't judge he asked if there was anything he could do i asked for a referrel for nutrtionist or dietican to build a team he wanted to run blood work especially since i had the gallbladder issues and he was worried about my last round of cholestorol numbers and the fatty tissue on my liver they saw on the ultra sound, i have been going lower on the fats but feel i can do better and that is why i asked for a team to help me with. Carrie push for what you want you are the patient if you don't get what you need get a second opinion!! You are looking out for you number 1! Your doc seems complacintes with meds which contractict it all.

Oh and good job on posting your accomplishments and blogging your feelings!! Woohoo!! emoticon

Sounds like you have plenty of reasons to be frustrated. So glad you're checking out all the meds and taking your health into your own hands. I'm praying the cause for your fatigue will be discovered and you'll get the proper treatment. Keep vigilant!
