Thanks to everyone who commented on yesterday's half marathon blog. And yes, TC is my total soulmate. This is the second marriage for both of us and we will be married 24 years in July.
We met in prison.
YES, we really did.
We each worked as teachers in the Michigan Department of Corrections and after a long battle, the prison I worked in was changed over to a SuperMax and I was involuntarily transferred. My choice was to quit or start working at another prison. I was devastated to be transferred from a prison 4 miles away from home to one 25 miles away!
But the principal of my prison school told me that she knew a really wonderful man who was a great teacher who was stationed at my new location and I should "look him up". I was soooo looking for a new friend after losing all of mine at the prison I had just left. Since I respected her, I automatically respected her friend.
I was anxious to be friends from him from the get-go (prison schools never have more that 6-10 teachers), and thought our mutual friend would pave the way. But....he was pretty cold to me. I gave up on being friends with him from that point.
But at the three-month anniversary of my transfer, the friend/man who was TC started warming up! (He had a relationship to end AND he wanted to see if I was a good teacher.) After those issues were resolved, he was ALL IN. The rest, as they say, is history. We started having lunches together, then dinners, then weekends...and FOUR WEEKS AFTER OUR FIRST "DATE" ... he proposed! I accepted but we didn't get all the ducks in a row until 5 months later, much quicker than my parents thought was appropriate, but...what can I say? We both knew it was right.
And 23.5 years later? As TC likes to say, we are "partners, lovers, and best friends."
I am SO LUCKY!
