So, after my revelation this week about the need to take care of my d@mn legs if I want to keep doing this run thang, I a pleased to report although the shin splint is still annoying it appears to be doing better.
I am fully convinced that this was as a result of these fancy dancy compression socks by Tommie Copper. They are genius seriously! All this time I was in the dark, compression is KING! I don't know if it has anything to do with the brand or anything but it really does relieve the pain. I am now starting to be convinced that this marathon thing is really happening and that injuries are not for me...HOORAY!
Anyhow, here are the stats from last week...
Monday - rest
Tuesday - 3M outside, 27:34
Wednesday - 5M run treadmill, 42:16mins
Thursday - 5M run treadmill, 42:16mins
Friday - gym workout, still lifting, cross train
Saturday - 9M run, Cranston track, 78mins, woohoo!
Sunday - 3M loop, 27:12
So with my renewed belief that I can train I am thinking that this scale back week should be done on the treadmill. It would appear that the treadmill does not seem to hurt my shin as badly which will allow me to let it recover a bit this week. Plus I am not adding any mileage anyway so why not. The dreadmill can be extremely boring but it is probably in my best interest.
