Birthday Ideas?

Monday, January 14, 2013

So.. this year is the big 30th birthday, and I am a bit overwhelmed at the fact I am leaving my 20s. I really want to do something great for my birthday; i.e., go away. To where? I have no idea. Sadly, this year's Air Force Ball is the day after my birthday. I told J that I kind of wanted to go away instead of go to the ball (I dont think he's super committed to going to the ball) but I also feel pressure that we should go because everyone else (his peers) are going. But, I am pretty sure hed go away if thats what I decide I want to do. Unfortunately, I dont know where to go!! My birthday is Valentine's Day, so we'd be choosing to go away that weekend, which I feel like is probably a popular weekend that couples go away. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg, but I'd like to be somewhere warm - I am so sick of snow (it's snowing again, too!).

Any suggestions on where we should go / what should we do? What did you all do for your big birthdays?

Who knows - we could end up here going to the ball instead. I am pretty sure that uniform doesnt fit me anymore, either!

If Jay wants to go to the ball then I don't see a reason why you can't celebrate your birthday another weekend. For my 30th my husband an I met my best friend and her husband in Cancun for a long weekend. My best friend and I are two days apart and we ended up leaving vacation on my birhtday and hers was two days later - didn't matter we weren't there exactly on her birthday.

For my husband's 30th we went to Disney Land! I know you just went to Disney World so this may not work for you but it's an idea. I say go somewhere fun were you can do something if you want or do nothing at all. Maybe a resort type place where there are activities and you can choose to join or just hang out.

You could also do Florida (Miami, Destin), Las Vegas, New Orleans, Reno, Lake Tahoe, or Chicago - just some ideas.

Can't wait to hear what you decide!

Hmmmm...I can understand the need to get away from the snow. I haven't done anything special for my milestone birthdays (21, 30, 40). I do think that Valentine's Day is a big getaway weekend but maybe you could go away the weekend before??

How fun! Maybe go to the ball and then celebrate your 30th on a later weekend when the prices are down. That way you can stretch your birthday out, I LOVE doing that! emoticon

Valentines Day may be way more expensive, and overbooked by now. Maybe do something meaningful to you around that time, not necessarily ON it.

What I usually do for milestone birthdays is do exercise to the number of years in miles. So for you it would be to hike, bike, run or ski 30 miles. If you are in very good shape I would suggest you do it over several days.
I have also had a Happy hour to which I invited guests equal to my age.
If you want to get away to somewhere warm I am not sure where that is right now. I am in AZ and we are having very cold temperatures right now. I would want something maybe like a cruise to Bahamas or something like that?
If you do decide to stay home maybe you can look now and find a nice place to book that is Cheaper using and go to the warm sections of the hotel, sauna, jacuzzi
    Just throwing out ideas
Best wishes on what to choose

I was just reading your blog and saw you are in Colorado Springs. Our favorite getaways are Glenwood Springs (30 minutes from my house) and Taos, NM. Good luck!
