Knee surgery update, again.

Monday, January 14, 2013

Hello everyone and let me say first. A huge THANK YOU to so many of you that have kept up with me although I have been so MIA here on SP. Your comments, goodies, phone calls, text and FB love have been so helpful and kept me moving forward when I only wanted to crawl under a rock............with a chainsaw and cut this KNEE off.

Well, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration emoticon

I am also doing the BLC round again for the 7th time although I did take a break from Round 21. My BFF -SEVEN- talked me into it and I am so thankful to her. I am now a Steely Sapphire Soldier and there are so many of my team members that have had knee surgeries that I know I am in a great place to get moving forward. GO SAPPHIRES GO! HOOAH!!

For my other teams ESPECIALLY the Pink Panthers of the BL Winter Challenge (you gals are the cream of the crop) thank you for letting me get away with not being around so much and I promise to do better and get my hiney back in gear.

Now I saw the knee specialist today and there is good and bad news. Apparently he does not think the procedure he did to my knee has worked, he said it was a 50/50 chance and of course my knee would protest. But he is not giving up just yet and has allowed me to finally be weight bearing on my right leg again, he is also sending me to PT twice a week and wants me in the hot water pool while I am doing stuff..............that should be fun!! He is also going to start some injections to my knee in 6 weeks that is a kind of cartilage substance to see if that helps and if none of this works.................dun dun dunnnnnnnnn

I will be having either a partial or total knee replacement before this coming Christmas. I do believe I will put it off until the spring as one of my problems is that the COLD is just a killer on the old knee.

He has upped my pain medication by twice what it was and says that will help with getting back to walking on it and the PT. I can drive my car again but only if I feel I am in control (which honestly I do not being on all the pain meds) so my wonderful DH will have to be my taxi for a bit longer.

I am finally able to get on the computer at my computer desk for a bit longer than I was able to and I am once again using my notebook while I lay in bed or am in the recliner with the leg propped up.

So that is about it gals. I look forward to doing more so I can take off this weight that I have gained since the surgery but I PROMISE not to overdo it either. I still have my trusty NEON PINK emoticon and will use it as I need it.

So thank you for listening and for always being there for me. As I always say LYG or LOVE YOUR GUTS as I always say,

Nimsy the Nimster

:::sigh:: Nimsy, you ARE a soldier and funny how things work out since now that it seems a good possibility you'll need knee replacement surgery you have Suzanne to guide you before, during and after and she is a PRO! So for now you need to listen to doctor's orders - be careful with that hot pink emoticon on the ice/snow and stay warm with lots of TLC, good books, your notebook, hot tea emoticon emoticon rest - lots and lots of rest. I have an idea...why don't you work on writing a new Gracie book while you are recuperating???? Gather the bunnies and kitties around and start storytelling and writing! emoticon emoticon

emoticon my girl. You will get through this! Hope PT goes well. One day at a time- don't focus on the knee replacement. Do what you can.

Nimsy - I can only speak from experience but I have never regretted having the TKR at 52 and 53. To have that searing pain gone is wonderful. Do my knees every ache now? Of course they do when I've exerted myself but it's a different kind of ache - just a muscle soreness that an ice pack or a hot tub soak usually tempers.

Once you make up your mind/schedule your TKR we will talk. I will tell you how to prepare and steer you from the obstacles in your path. Til then hang on and keep the ibuprofen handy!

Hugs!

Oh, Nimsy, so sorry to hear that the surgery hasn't had the effect we were all hoping for. I think the idea of waiting until spring sounds lovely. Right now (if your weather is anything like ours, foul and rainy and getting colder) would NOT be nice at all. As if surgery ever is, huh?

LYG back!

Oh bother! as Pooh would say. I so hoped this would be the magic fix-it-forever procedure -- foully dispiriting to hear it doesn't seem to be. Well, picking you up , dusting you off & starting all over again -- surely the BIG one will be! And yes, wait till spring!

Definitely get the knee replaced if you can..the injections didn't help me and once I had healed from the knee replacement the pain went away...I'm continuing to pray for you and your healing..the hot water will help a lot. so enjoy it!!!

I have heard from several friends who have had knee replacements and they were really thrilled at how well it went. Hope his ideas work for you dearheart but if not don't be afraid. Truly.

Crapoloa! I too, hoped it would work. After the knee replaement, you should be back to normal...right?

Glad you are now starting PT and weight bearing. I hope this fixes the problem. I know you'll give it your best. I love your hot pink walker! LOL! I had the standard black one, but it had a fun red "pockets" tied to the front.

Good luck this round! I'm staying on the island again so come and visit any time! I've got a chair (and Cabana boy) ready for you.

Oh Nimsy, I was so hoping that the surgery would do wonders for your knee. emoticon

Glad you made it to the BLC, I'll definitely have to stop by the Sapphire Soldier's thread - I see several folks on there that I know. Once the BLC gets going and settles a bit I'll be making the rounds of all the teams I neglected during my Spark Break.
