SHOULDER UPDATE - January 14, 2013

Monday, January 14, 2013

It's been a while since I've done an update. Shoulder surgery was on the 20th of December. The damage to my shoulder was much worse than the MRI or surgeon had shown/suspected it would be. There was a lot of damage to the rotator cuff area itself. On the 22nd of December I undid part of the repair work. I've since started physical therapy (PT) also known as pain and torture!! PT has been quite painful - more so than the surgery itself I think. It's a slower process than usual according to the therapist since I re-ruptured the rotator cuff. Last week therapy brought tears to the eyes!!!! Today there's been some progress in the bicep area - - a little but right now I'll take all I can get!!! I won't be piggy; however, I must admit I do get impatient with myself and therapy - - although I know it's all my fault with the re-injury. Today I get to start my first "homework" therapy - - that's a step forward.

I've gone through some depression since the re-injury but am trying to take it one day at a time. I had gained 2 1/2# but have lost 2# this month so I am pleased with that part. Still sleeping in the recliner and can't wait until I can sleep in my bed!!!

That's about all for now - - I'll just keep truckin' one day at a time!!!

awww I'm so sorry. emoticon emoticon emoticon

20 years ago I pulled my shoulder and the doc that I saw didn't I did anything to it, said there was nothing wrong with it. Today I have a very bad mess that causes me all kinds of pain and there is nothing that can be done about it. A new doc told me that if the first guy had treated it and I had done PT I wouldn't have any problems today. So bawl your eyes out during your PT, but don't give up.

I very well remember the pain from the surgery and the PT. I always dreaded going because I knew I would be aching.

I had surgery for a broken shoulder when I fell down the staircase 17 months ago and had to an implant. Too many bones were broken and it was a terrible injury. Do all of the PT you can. Do it at home as well. I hope you get a good range of motion.

Keep on truckin', Jud. Someday, you won't remember the PT, if you're like me. I've gained too, but haven' t used the tools at my disposal, except the fork. Christmas breads & cookues... Take care!
