My Weekend

Well, after work on Friday I went over to the gym and got in 20 minutes on the elliptical. I had forgotten my ipod but luckily the time went by quickly anyway. Then I headed home to cook dinner. I made cajun chicken fettucine (which I found on Spark Recipes). It was pretty yummy, but not as spicy as I had been hoping for. J liked it too. He bought me a blu-ray player for christmas, but I needed an additional HDMI cable and it didnt come with one so he ordered me one and set to work Friday after dinner to get it hooked up. Unfortunately, while he was playing with the other cables, the HDMI cable I had for my satellite dish stopped working. So he had to order me another cable. (note: he didnt have to order me one, I am perfectly capable of going to best buy and purchasing one for myself, but he insisted he would get it and its cheaper on amazon). So, by next weekend I should be all working again.

Saturday morning we went out to breakfast at IHOP because I was craving chocolate chocolate chip pancakes. Don't hate on me haha. Love them! And I planned to run Saturday also so I wasnt too worried about my calories. So yummy. I made it to the gym around 11ish and set out to run 3 miles on the treadmill. I briefly considered running outside - ha it was 18 degrees when I got to the gym - that was not happening! (It was 15 degrees when I left the gym!). I set the treadmill to a 12 minute mile pace, which is a comfortably slow pace for me on the treadmill. The longest I've run lately without stopping or taking walking breaks is 2.5 miles, but I was determined to run 3. The first 2.5 miles were fine, though a bit boring - I didnt have my ipod with me again! While running I had some time to reflect on how my running will be different this year from last year. Last year everytime I set out to run a distance, I would quit at the slightest struggle or boredom. I would tell myself "ok, we're going to run 3 miles today" but if I got 2 and didnt want to continue, I would just stop. But so far, my mentality has been different. I told myself 3 miles on Saturday, no ifs,s ands, or buts about it. The last 1/2 mile was a struggle for me (which makes sense, new recent distance), but I pushed through, and felt really accomplished. I need to stick with this mentality. Obviously, if I am in pain, that is a reason to cut my run short, but boredom or complacency is not - especially if I want to get to the 1/2 marathon distance again this year! After my run, I got in a really good stretching session and then headed out on an adventure to find new running sneakers. I went to a local running store that I had not been to before, but it has gotten good reviews. And I was severely disappointed. They did the whole fitting, gait analysis, etc. and discovered my right foot has a high arch, while my left foot has a medium arch (which I already knew) and thus I need a stability shoe (which I also already knew). And then they told me they dont sell shoes for people with high arches. They just dont keep them in stock. Lovely. Well, free gait analysis was nice, but kind of a waste of time. :( I love road runner sports, but the closest one is like 1.5 hours away... I am considering making the trek up there this coming weekend anyway... I did go to Dicks Sporting Goods and tried on a few different stability shoes there, including the Brooks Adrenaline 13 (I currently where the 12), but I wanted to see what other stability shoe options are out there. I have a 20% off coupon for Sports Authority, so I may go there as well... I just want to find a supportive shoe that isnt going to cause me arch pain that runs up the side of my foot and leg!

I also stopped at Joann's fabrics and bought some really nice fabric for this fluffy pillow-like iPad case I planned to make. Got a really great price on it too, and luckily the store was not crowded! However, on Sunday when I set down to actually make it, it was kind of a disaster....

I waited a really long time after running before eating lunch - so much so that I started feeling sick - it was only 3 miles, but I felt my blood sugar drop and I definitely had to eat something quick and then rest until I felt better. That was a bit annoying. Saturday night J and I went to an 80s themed party! I scrunched up my hair real big, donned some bright blue eye shadow, and had a blast! We had to bring a food, so I made mini spinach dip bread bowls and they were a hit! The hosts of the party did a great job decorating - they were record covers from the 80s, movie posters, even cheap beer from the 80s as well as wine coolers! I cant even remember the last time I drank a wine cooler, but I drank 4 of them on Saturday night! All of the ladies spent the evening dancing to cheesy 80s music while the men drank beer and watched football. I felt really included by the other ladies, even though I am at least 10 years younger than all of them. In fact, I was even invited to join the spouse's book club (even though I am not a spouse). It was honestly one of the most fun nights I've had in a while. J and I are going to Snofest in 2 weeks, which is a big ski weekend for Air Force people in Colorado, and all of the people we were with Saturday night will also be going to Snofest, so that should be fun.

Sunday morning when we woke up we tried to think of things to do in the area but it was so cold (like 1 degree out!) so that plan didnt really work. I took yesterday as a deserved rest day, and really didnt do much. I did spend $100 on Buffy at the Petsmart - I got her a new fluffy bed, a new toy, and a new collar and leash. I attempted to work on my iPad case, but I must have measured incorrectly - well more accurately, I did not take into account that the measurements would shrink once I started sewing things together, and unfortunately I didnt have enough fabric to try again. So eventually this week I will get back to the store and buy more fabric and try again. My finished project yesterday was pretty much what i was going for - I just need it bigger... I was pretty lazy the rest of the day - I had so many leftovers from last week - guess I cooked more than I thought I did, so I didnt even bother going to the grocery store or cooking, which I will certainly regret when I need to go grocery shopping after work tonight! I ordered a new Hungry Girl recipe book and it came on Friday so I have a few things picked out to make. I am really excited about the breakfast recipes - especially the egg mugs!

I slept pretty poorly last night and felt a bit sick when I woke up this morning. So I ended up skipping PT, but packed my gym bag to try to get in something after work. My knee has been a little bit sore since Saturday night, but that is probably from dancing in 3 inch heels. :( It seems to be feeling better today so I may try to get in a run after work on the treadmill, or else I'll do either a dvd or a circuit workou when I get home from grocery shopping. The big thing is getting to the grocery store after work.

I weighed in this morning for the first time since New Years Day, and I have lost 1.6 pounds. I am happy with that :) Hopefully the scale keeps going down and doesnt come back up again!

    Before I went minimalist, I liked the Saucony stability line. They feel very cushy. But since no amount of shoes or orthotics or specialty products helped me, I now live in my 5 Fingers and will not go back!

    For me, I hit a bad place from about 2.5 to 3.5 miles. During this time I am asking/telling myself all kinds of stupid questions, like "Why am I running? Running is NOT for me! Why do I keep going? What am I trying to accomplish here? I should just quit." But I know that if I just keep going, it will pass and then I will hit my 2nd wind and FEEL AWESOME!!! Once I hit about 3.5, everything just clicks and it's totally worth it!!

    Now that I know this about myself, I call it my Wimper Phase. And now that I know it's only temporary, it makes it so much easier to push through it. Keep going!

    Busy weekend emoticon I am glad you had fun at the 80's party and met some nice ladies- and were invited to their book club! You are doing great about getting your workouts in. I don't know if I could be that dedicated in cold weather - I would just want to hibernate emoticon

    I hate how electronics have started coming without!!

    Arch pain is no fun. I hope you are able to find a good, comfy shoe.....and if you can get it 20% off....even better.
    Sounds like a fun party :-) I didn't know they still made wine coolers.
    Boo for having to go to the grocery store after work. Hope you feel well enough to get a workout....knee included.
