TEA...

1.A hot drink made by infusing the dried, crushed leaves of the tea plant in boiling water.
2.The dried leaves used to make such a drink.

So, I have what's called GERD's and lately it has gotten SO extremely bad! Mornings would be okay, but by mid to late afternoon, it would start to get so bad that I could not sit without discomfort and pain. So last night, as I'm sipping my evening tea (a BIG HUGE mug) I decided to do some internet searching as to why I feel this way. A couple of days ago I went back to my strict gluten free diet and this has helped some. But again by mid afternoon, I started to hurt again. I take a omeprazole once in the morning and decided I need to go back to taking it twice a day once again. This did not really show much results. So I got to thinking, what have I been doing lately that is different then what I use to do. TEA! I started drinking a LOT of tea! So I googled this and one website did say that some herbal teas may contribute to GERD's acting up. WOOLAH! But the research also said that I may have "anxiety". GREAT! So one step at a time. I am due for my annual in March. Between now and then, I will stop drinking tea and see what happens. I'm so bummed though, because I gave up alcohol nearly a year ago for GERD's (and other reasons), and thought now I had found the greatest and healthest substitute drink to soothe my mind, my soul, and my evenings. Now what? Any suggestions? I am going to take up yoga once again for my evening relaxation. But I need a good evening, non alcoholic, sugar free, carbonated free drink...besides WATER! I love water and drink it all day long....it gets boring....HELP!
SO for now, by George, I think I found my answer to my stomach problem! YAY!!

A better and more long term 'cure' (IMO, LOL) is apples... about 20 minutes before every meal, and any time you feel your GERD acting up, just eat a few slices of apple... it doesn't matter what kind, just chew it really well. If your GERD is particularly bad, additionally eat an apple before bed. I guarantee that if you do this, within a couple of days your GERD will be gone and it won't return.

Three years ago, I had GERD so bad I was having to sleep sitting up, and even then I never had a moment during the day when I was pain free, nor could I eat anything that didn't intensify symptoms. I did this and I have not had a problem since.

An apple a day really does keep the doctor away, LOL!

Some people have had help by taking a cal/mag supplement and/or sipping some liquid chlorophyll in water. Each of these supplements help balance the acid in the stomach naturally. Hope you find what works for you!

I had to start drinking tonic each day for my leg cramps. So I did that for awhile and that really helped. My leg cramps have settled down so I haven't been doing that so much lately. I really liked the tip from PMFISH re the lemon juice. I'm going to try to adapt that one!! Good luck - I feel for you!!

If that stops the gerd, that is great news. Squeeze a half lemon in your glass of water with a bit of stevia and see how that sits on your tummy. Lemon juice makes the system alkaline and disease cannot live in an alkaline system. My holistic Dr. told me to do that 3 times a day and I have been able to stay free from all respiratory infections for over two years now. Prior I was in the hospital every February for a week or two. After I make it through next month it will actually be the 3rd year. Have a great week.

When is an answer not an answer? Can you drink herbal tea? There must be something that you can steep in hot water that won't make your GERD act up. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery and that you find your evening drink soon. My Grandmothers both discovered the joys of sipping hot water... with no tea bag.... they might have been on to something. emoticon
