Half-Way To Marathon

Monday, January 14, 2013

18 Weeks of Training started in November, hit the half way mark this weekend. I can honestly say this is the hardest goal I have ever set for myself, but I'm tackling it one day at a time.

One of the hardest things is carving out the block ot time necessary to meet this goal. Running 3 days during the week and long runs every Saturday while keeping up with all my other duties has been quite a challenge and especially these past two weeks since the mileage is amping up and it's taking more and more time. I had my long run set for Saturday, but family duty called, so I had to change it to Sunday.

Changing plans really used to upset me, however during these past 9 weeks of training, I've learned to juggle life's distractions (there have been so many lately) and still meet "MY" goals, I believe that is a very valuable lesson I've learned.

Started the long run yesterday with my sister, we got a late start (another lesson in being flexible, lol) but we completed the 15 miles, one step at a time. We were going to treat ourselves to IHOP all-you-can-eat pancakes when we were done, so from about mile 8 I started imaging how good those pancakes were gonna be and guessing how many I could eat, after all I could have as many as I wanted (not really, but it was a great visual - me with a huge stack of pancakes)

Do you know how totally famished one can be after running 15 miles? Here's me being silly (as always), BEWARE this a post run pic, no make-up and a bad hair-do, lol. If you can't have fun, what good is it right? I only managed to eat 3 pancakes, they were small, but I sure inhaled 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and some hashbrowns before I moved on to dessert....pancakes, and I belonged to the clean plate club.

I saw this on my FB page this morning...

My heroine has done it again. Way to go both on your training and your pancake feast. Keep up that self-discipline.

Love the picture. I must be a freak cause I was rarely hungry after long runs, weird.

You are doing great, keep it up.

Dude, you ran farther on Sunday than I run in a week! WOW!

I ought to start imagining treats like IHOP... I bet you really do work up an appetite. Even though it's cold and wet here, by the time I finish 30 minutes of walking/jogging intervals, all I want is a shower. But hey, imagining how good a shower's going to feel would push me to finish a little faster or go a little farther, too!

BTW, your picture looks great, from the clean plate all the way up!

I am in awe of you, and anyone who can follow through on a marathon training plan. Besides fear of injury, the time commitment is my biggest roadblock to attempting that goal. Great picture by the way.

Great job! My appetite tends to get suppressed by really long runs . . . but you earned every single bite!

Who knew the lessons you'd learn?

We miss you!

OMGosh - PANCAKES sound soooooo good right now. YUMMY.
Good job on the 15 miles.
You look beautiful as always - Bad hair, no make up - it doesn't matter.
I am learning a lesson or two about life's distractions too. With the SH's new work hours it has really thrown my schedule for a loop but you just have to roll with it and make sure to find the time. I know it's something I have struggled with but not anymore. It's about making the time no matter what.
