Big Fright

Sunday, January 13, 2013

A couple of nights ago my very furry friend let me know that she would like to go out for a while...
and being the obedient servant that I am I opened the back door and when the outside light
went on I saw to my absolute horror a skunk at the bottom of the steps...those of you who
have visited my page will know my dog has a very thick coat.. hence my fright.!
Well!! the skunk took off and Chica flew down the steps after it, I let out a screech loud enough to wake the dead .. and fortunately for both of us she obeyed instantly and came back to me.
Major catastrophe averted. Although I live in a big city..there are many little beasties that share this space .. in fact every evening there is a hockey game {or football} that takes place
on my roof between squirrels and racoons {they don't include the skunks} we also have
coyotes and they pose a big risk for cats and small dogs ..and they don't seem to be afraid of humans.. That's all for now folks !!Have a Happy Day..

sTART PUTTING MOTH BALLS AT THE CRACKS AROUND YOU HOUSE, OR NEAR YOU FENCE, THE SMELL MAY KEEP THEM AWAY. I DON'T THINK YOU DOG WILL EAT IT CAUSE IT SMELLS BAD.

oh my gosh...when we lived in Ohio...my friends daughter got sprayed by a skunk. She took a bath in lots of tomato juice. What an aweful smell. There were lots of skunks there. My daughter ran away from one and was lucky not to have gotten sprayed.

    HI Alicia,
According to Mythbusters episode 16, the best mixture to remove skunk is a combination of soap, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda.. I'd be careful around tender bits, eyes and it may bleach the fur if left on too long.

( Oh and yes, I'm a Potter Fan. Those are Molly Weasley sleeves on the sweater from HP2,COS) emoticon

Good thing you had such an obedient dog! Worse than the smell is that skunks can carry rabies.
My silly Sheltie thought the skunk at our summer place was a cat. He likes cats. He went up to it to say hi and fortunately, the skunk didn't feel threatened. She just walked away.

Thank God that was averted! Back in December my dog managed to come in rather pungent 2 weeks in a row.

We had a pack of coyotes visit last week. Sadly we no longer have our nanny goat. Of course hubby was out of town. He's back and the coyotes are gone. hmmm

Wow...sounds like we live in the same neighborhood. I wake up to squirrel races on our roof every morning. Last week-end my husband battled a possem who wanted to make our utility shed his/her home. But haven't seen an skunks yet. I have a lab mix that would not have been so obedient. emoticon

Even in London, my cats are not allowed out after dark. More form the fear of other humans and cars than animals!
