You can change when you believe you can

Sunday, January 13, 2013

No matter what habit it is you want to stop or change, you will never be able to do it if you don't believe you can. You must be able to believe you can change your habit before you will be able to. If there is doubt or you are saying that you can't, then you won't be able to change it.

You need to wake up daily saying that you can change that habit. You can stop doing the thing that is hindering you. Once you start saying that you can, you will be able to do it, no matter what it is.

After you start the positive thought process, everything else will come easier. No one will be able to stop you once you get that thought in your mind. "I can do it!" is a strong statement. Even if someone else tells you you can't, if you believe that you can, then you're right. There might be obstacles to overcome, but you'll start trying to figure out how to overcome them and eventually you'll be finding yourself going in the direction with your goals when you believe that you can. You might even find yourself saying "this is hard" but thinking about how much better you'll feel for breaking the habit you no longer want controlling your life.

The little train that was faced with the very steep hill believed in itself and while saying "I think I can" kept going up that hill and eventually it made it all the way to the top and eventually found it easy to keep going once it was past the top of the hill. Then it said to itself "I knew I could" and it was right. You can be just like that little train continually saying "I think I can" and reach your goals, no matter how far away they seem at the time. As long as you keep the positive thought of I can in your mind, you will reach your goals and eventually you will find yourself with a new, healthier habit making life easier for you because you knew you could.

I know you can, do you?

Great post! Powerful and true. People always ask about the secrets of weight loss. Of course the usual suspects come to mind first: eating less, tracking food, exercising, etc. But, I remember there was a moment, maybe a week or so before I actually started SP when something clicked and I realized that the weight loss was possible. Not just necessary or beneficial, but actually achievable, for me, for anybody. I believe it was in that moment of realization that everything changed. Then, joining SP, you see more and more people that accomplish their goals and that really reaffirms and strengthens the faith (in yourself). I need to remember this when tackling other goals.

Sometimes, we need to concentrate on the things we CAN DO! We can drink our water, we can track everything we eat. Each of us have to determine what to focus on when it seems like nothing is happening.

I was at a store mentioning when I lost some more weight, I'd buy some new smaller sweat pants. A lady listening in wished me success, and I remember thinking, it was totally up to me and I can do this. Mind set is everything. I did eat more today but ready to eat normally in my range for the week for sure!
