My husband has very low vision and can't read the numbers on a pedometer unless he uses a lighted magnifying glass. When Spark People teamed up with Fitbit last fall I convinced him that we should order this little device for him that automatically sends data to your fitness tracker on Spark People. He was very skeptical, but he relented. He has always liked walking, so that was a plus.
Well, he is now totally hooked on his device, and he even asked Santa to put a Fitbit in my stocking this year. I used to hesitate to ask him to go the basement to get something from the larder or the freezer, but now he welcomes the task so that he can get more steps. While we are out doing errands, he will challenge me to park far far away from our destination so that we can get more steps. One day recently we stopped for an oil change, and we decided to walk a half mile to the grocery story for bananas. We had to hustle the half mile back to the garage because I wasn't sure when they closed.
The day before yesterday I noticed that his steps appear on the top 10 pages of the Fitbit Challenge...well now, he is really excited. After he walks with me around the hilly subdivision, he drops me off and walks the loop again at his long legged pace! This gets better all the time! I am delighted that he is getting healthier and that I have a walking partner wherever and whenever we are! We are even looking at upcoming fitness walks in our area.
