As I was heading up the mountain that I often climb in my snow shoes, I was trying to figure out how many times I'd been out this year. I'm a big believer in writing down one's accomplishments so I decided to start my list and then I can add my trips as a I go from here.
On December 16, I climbed the mountain in an hour and 15 minutes and I was so happy that I could do it on my first trip of the year. When I first started snowshoeing in 2006, it took me several attempts to get all the way to the top.
December 30, i went and then made a loop all the way around the ski area. A woman who had never gone to the top joined us and it reminded me of how good it feels to meet a fitness challenge.
January 1 Deb and another crazy lady friend and I did a 5K snowshoe to start the new year. The wind was blowing the snow sideways, but we toughed it out. We've done this several times over the years and no matter how late Deb stays up on New Year's eve, she's always ready to go.
January 5 Climbed the mountain at Showdown, twice! Man was I tired.
January 12. It was -5 when I started, but I made it to the top, warmed up then headed down the other side. Came back 90 minutes later, warmed up and then started down the mountain. Stayed warm by breaking the trail.
I only have good snowshoeing memories...except for that one time. But that's for another blog. Today I'm just happy to be strong enough to do this. It's a great way to be outside whether alone or with friends. It's made winter a lot more enjoyable.
