"Belief in oneself is often the best and wisest course."
That is the quote from my calendar today and it brought to mind one of the most profound speeches I have ever heard, by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. This is a small part that I think applies to weight loss, "Nothing strengthens the judgment and quickens the conscience like individual responsibility. Nothing adds such dignity to character as the recognition of one's self -sovereignty..." (you can see the full text here: www.sscnet.ucla.edu/hist
This weekend is drill weekend. We were supposed to have PT outside today, but it got cold and we had other stuff going on.
It was funny but when I was on the treadmill the other night, running in my regular Asics traditional tennis shoes, I noticed I was kicking myself in the ankles. Mind you, these are really GREAT shoes... but I really didn't relish the idea of kicking myself while running... and noted that I did not do this in my toe tennies, not a single pair. But I can't wear toe tennies when in PT uniform, so yesterday I went in search of a pair of slightly more traditional tennies that were also considered to be minimalist to barefoot.
After 3 stores, I ended up finding a pair of Merrell Pace Gloves on sale on a clearance rack. I like these as much as I like any of my toe tennies. I can wear them interchangeably with my toe shoes. I tested them on the treadmill this evening... and they are excellent. I can't wait until it warms up enough so I can take them out for a spin, so to speak.
Tonight wasn't a full out run. I only managed 2.25 miles running, 3.1 miles total. Even though I was going for 4... I literally just ran out of gas today. I don't even know why since I ate a good dinner. But oh, well...
I have achieved my ongoing goal, to increase my endurance and distance. I managed 3.5 miles straight running on Thursday evening. I am happy with that. Once I have run another one of those, I will up it to 3.6 miles, I think.
