Deleting comments of those who disagree

Saturday, January 12, 2013

I just discovered that you can delete comments made on your blog. I found this out as I was searching for someone by her comment made on a blog, and it was gone ( I did find her eventually :) What really surprised me was that the comment was gone. It was made very respectfully, but it did state how the person did not totally agree with the blogger on one aspect. This person complimented the writing and agreed with the blogger on other issues in the blog. Since there were lots and lots of other comments, all agreeing with the blogger still there, I tend to think it was the disagreement which caused the deletion. I guess this shouldn't surprise me, but to be truthful, it does. Part of the support of sp to me is the sharing of opinions. We are so very different, and we do not have to agree in order to support one another. I learn from the differing opinions, the different "diets," the differences in our bodies and how our bodies respond to those differences, and the different viewpoints. Often for me, to hear an opinion that differs from me is to learn something new or at least a different way to look at something.

I guess, too, that b/c there are so very many differences in ppl.....there are also going to be different feelings to negative responses (and/or differing opinions.) Some are bothered by it. Some are not. emoticon

I have been deleted but unless someone used foul language I leave comments even if they disagree with me. emoticon

Hmmm... And here I thought people deleted them as a way to keep track of the people they've replied to!

I noticed that too....and on some VERY popular Sparkbloggers...AND with POSITIVE comments I have left! Trust me, when I saw that, I was PEEVED beyond anything you can imagine! What? You couldn't just leave it? Why'd you delete mine when it said the same thing another said? Yup, panties got twisted with that one - BIG TIME.

Anywho - I am with you, leave them be, let people learn no matter what something says unless, seriously, it's an awful awful comment.,,and with that, report it.

Some people delete and some don't. It's a matter of personal preference. I've only deleted once because I, like you, feel everyone had a right to their own opinion if shared respectfully. Someone asked me to contact them on their personal email and i thought it was my husband's ex-wife But I'll never know because I deleted her. Talk about being paranoid.

I think you are doing great by blogging intelligently.

Very well put. As long as someone disagrees in a respectful manner, I think it is a healthy exchange of ideas and viewpoints. I have no issue deleting a comment if I feel it was disrespectful or rude but never because I disagree with the comment. In your stated case, I wonder if the commenter was being "attacked" on her page for her comment on yours. I certainly hope that isn't/wasn't the case because we are all adults here and should behave as such.
