Pictures of The Hawk

Saturday, January 12, 2013

I was standing at my front window drinking my coffee the other day checking out the birds at the bird feeder. Suddenly, I see this beauty come to check out what all the fuss is about. I called her a falcon, but my husband says she's a hawk.

I don't know, but that is a big bird. You should have seen me scrambling around looking for my camera and then running up the stairs so I could get a better picture. She's really checking me out. She didn't get any birds or squirrels to eat that day. It wasn't long before a car came and frightened her away. She's more skittish than the smaller birds.

We have a tiny little feeder that my husband puts black sunflower seeds in. I intentionally bought a small feeder so the bigger birds couldn't use it. I was trying to get a picture of birds at the feeder this morning but one the neighbors had a tree cut down and then the kids have been running up and down our street on their skateboards this afternoon. Saturdays are just too busy! Well, that and it's over 70 degrees today, when the normal high would be in the 40's or 50's.

This feeder drives the squirrel crazy. We finally found a place to put it where she can't reach it and pull it over and dump it. The bigger birds and the squirrels still have plenty of seed to find on the ground and my husband always puts some on the ground for them anyway. I don't know why he wants to feed the squirrels. I'm sure the squirrel who makes a mess of my gardens and tries to dump the feeder is the same one who spent the night in my attic! We opened the window for the squirrel the next morning and she left.

Oh, and the reason our grass is so green is because we lost so much lawn over the dry summer that my husband reseeded and fertilized. We've had such a warm early winter and finally got some much needed rain and the grass started to grow. My poor husband has to mow the lawn every week still!

Beautiful photo. Fairly unusual to see them sit so calmly in trees in residential areas during the daytime. Mowing is good exercise emoticon Right now I don't think about doing any outdoor work, not til the knees are done healing! Hope you are doing well! Have a wonderful week!

I take more time in my walks to look around and not just be pre-occupied with the exercise component. I do see hawks and even owls. Great to see. Thanks for the photo.

I had on in my back yard, but could not get close enough to take picture. I had a wild turkey in the drive way and a big owl in the lot next door. Good job getting the pic. I think the lawn looks great.

Ihad a huge pepper tree in my yard in California and one day a big hawk with some sort of dead something landed and proceeded to enjoy his lunch! It was amazing! There was nobody home and neighbors on both sides were gone so I went across the street and knocked on a neighbor's door and their older son was home. I told him he had to come over and see this! Well, he did and we stood in my kitchen for about 20 minutes watching him! It was amazing. He was so glad I called him over!

Your hawk was probably wondering where our weather came from! What a glorious day we had! More tomorrow, too! Too bad for your DH, as that grass will love it too!
