Success beyond the scale - moving towards a healthy family

Saturday, January 12, 2013

The Peak313 Challenge that I have been doing has been great! This afternoon I noticed that I'm making headway on one of my highest priority goals; my family is on board with this healthy lifestyle. I realized that my teenagers have not asked for pop in over a week! That's huge for them. I know they'll still drink it socially but not having it in the house is progress. I bought them all their own water bottles and all of them have been using them and drinking water regularly!
For lunch I made a huge salad with cubed up chicken and they all ate really good, without complaining! Then I realized that they haven't really complained all week. We've honestly ate more veggies over the last 2 weeks then we ate in 2012!
We had a great discussion at lunch about portion control and healthy foods and they really acted interested. In fact, my 16 year old daughter asked to come to a bible study that's starting at church soon on Healthy Living!
My daughter has also been running more than usual this week. She borrowed some of my dumbbells and has been doing Pinterest routines.
Now that I sit back and look at this challenge, I am so happy to see what an affect it has had on my family. Besides the nutrition benefits, two people in my family struggle with depression and I'm seeing the positive benefits and changes in that area too.
I started this challenge looking to make self improvements. I've ended up on the path to life improvements.
I can't thank God enough for what He is doing in my life and my families lives. I now understand how my obedience can lead to His glory.
Thank you To all my Spark Friends and my very special Spark and real friend (you know who you are)! Your encouragement means more than you could ever know.

That is awesome Amber about the kids. Our example speaks volumes to our families. To God be the glory for all that He is doing in your family.

That study sounds great and you are right Erin is a great leader.

That is so awesome, Amber! I think that when our kids see us making healthy choices it encourages them to do the same! I got Madi's request to join the church Bible study- so cool that you two can do it together! emoticon

It's a bible study that Erin (our Peak leader) is doing at our church. During the summer, she did a Made to Crave study and it was a huge success. This semester we're doing "Look Great, Feel Great" by Joyce Meyer. Erin's a great leader and I love going to a church that looks to improve our body, soul and Spirit!
