Off to the Dr. we shall go!

Saturday, January 12, 2013

I finally took myself to the Dr. yesterday as I have an ongoing issue with nasal polyps. They have been removed twice but they came back, again, and they were causing me some discomfort and now an infection. My copay is high and I had to use some of our gas money to get the prescriptions but it is time I looked after me for once. I am no good to anyone if I'm not feeling my best!

Anyway, the Dr. weighed me and I have put on almost 20 lbs since the last time about a yr ago! SHAMEFUL! But MOTIVATING! This is a good starting block for me. I am finally getting myself together and our situation is improving slightly and so hopefully the stars will align it all in my favor and push us all forward instead of sideways! Anything is better than going backwards! :)

I spoke to my Dr. about my eyes, too, which I have been having issues with. Vision loss and flashy lights but no headaches. They are really debilitating when they happen and I was scared that it might be a retina issue as both my brother and my dad had retina replacement/repairs in their lifetimes and I hear it can be hereditary. The Dr. thinks it might be silent migraines - the vision loss and wavy lines without the headache. She said it would be more like lightning bolts if it were the retina but it is still best to get checked out (if I can ever afford the $40 copay, which is the only thing holding me up!).

The Dr. reckons the polyps actually might be pressing on my nerve, which might be causing the optical issues, which means I should benefit from the meds they gave me to shrink the polyps in more ways than one. I would also love to have my sense of smell back!

All in all, I don't feel too well today, which is either because all of these pills have made me feel sickly or because I picked up something at the Dr's office - I always feel crap coming home from the Dr. Always a fun germ party!

I really have to set some new goals now with this weight loss. I am not back to my heaviest, thank goodness, but I have to get on it now before I am!!!

Alright guys, Happy Saturday!!!

I have optical migraines. They come and go. I get them several times a year and they last about 45-60 minutes. No pain, nausea or anything. I had optic neuritis many years ago and I have permanent damage to my left eye from lack of diagnosis by a quack-y eye doc, so when these migraines started I panicked as I thought the ON was back. Interesting about your sense of smell...during the extensive testing by the good eye doc, many neurological tests were done and they found I have no sense of smell in my left nostril! They never did find the cause of that one! Fortunately with one good eye and one good nostril I'm doing fine! I hope your problems will clear up with the new meds.

Hope the meds kick in fast and that the eye issues are just an extension of the nasal issues. emoticon

Some people respond to a doctor's recommendation about weight loss more than their own opinion. Hopefully you will lose weight and feel better about everything!
