Final things to do before the paperwork.

Friday, January 11, 2013

I have lots of food in the freezer.
Plans for travel completed.
Support from my Nurse neighbor. We feed and water her dog and she is helping us out in return.
She is an RN supervisor for Pediatrics but she has done lots of wound work Woo hoo, that is a relief.

Today we have bought DH an adjustable cane, he could not decide so we bought the adjustable one at Wal-Mart and it has a padded handle since he has an artificial finger joint he gets a much better grip and it is very sturdy.

DH has been practicing the walker because we have installed a lot of rug because DH has foot issues and the podiatrist suggested it. DH has much less problems with Plantar fascistis.

We might have to lift area rugs later but we will wait for that till he is back at the house.

We have traded recliners for a while. Mine has a handle to bring up the foot rest and also to put it down. DH has to use his legs to get his foot rest back down and that will not be possible for quite a while so we just traded. I have no problem with that little switch.

My exercises today were moving furniture and making his other sweat pants look better. They work just great. DH is pleased so am I

I called to reserve the hotel room. They asked if we wanted 2 beds or a king size and after shingles and the flu and separate rooms I decided I want to be in bed together just a whim on my part.

Our sons have called we have made plans to let them know where we will be.
DH and 2 sons had long talks and lots of laughter.

Thanks we are just doing the hard work now.

WAITING !!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticonS

My chair has one of those handles and it is great! My sister's chair has one as well, but still needs to use her legs to get it almost down, then she can use the handle. I just need to flick the handle on mine and it goes up and down like magic, lol

Glas you were able to get so much prep done on Friday.

Pat, I have never seen anyone so prepared as you are. Did you bring any reading material to occupy your mind during his surgery? My thoughts and prayers are with you and DH.

Thinking of you. I believe you will do fine. Yes, slippery area rungs will have to go, but just for a while til he is back on his feet. My dh recovered quickly from his hip. Breathe. and save time for you too in the hubbub of activity. Does your insurance cover visiting nurses? I know ours did. Hip incision actually much better than others that I have dealt with my dh. Lots of thoughts and prayers for you and your dh Pat.

Before you know it, this will be past, and he will be healing.

I just thought of something: batteries for that darned remote!! Unless you want to be jumping up and down all the time..
I agree on the sanitizer,, your laptop, doorknobs, faucet handles(yes, people, germs DO live on wet handles, not everybody uses soap), wheelchair handles, armrests, nurse call remote on his bed, light fixture , BP cuff, oxygen gauge that they put on hi finger, water pitcher and glass,

So, with all this info, the smallest thing you will take is worry, since we are all praying for both of you, the biggest thing you are taking with you is all of us, large or small, we are all right there with you, laptop or not,, tell Fred he has more backers than a mafia football board!!

Wow!! You seem to have covered just about every base and then some. I think the idea of bringing antibacterial wipes is a very good one - I've been doing that at the Y's fitness center lately, too.

Good luck and best wishes!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Now that so much of the physical prep work has been done, you can turn your attention toward the mental preparation. Going into a surgery with a positive attitude and confidence really does make a difference. Due to the severity of this flu epidemic, I also agree with the recommendation, already made by several friends here, to bring a supply of antibacterial wipes with you so you can make swipes at any surfaces you or he might have to touch in the hospital or hotel....don't want to pick up any bug that could have been so easily prevented. Your circle of Spark friends will keep you both in our thoughts and prayers! emoticon

Well, the only things I could think of (wipes and picking up area rugs) are out there, so I think you are WELL prepared my dear. Take a second to relax and breathe. Know you're thought of and prayers being said for both of you.

I wish you safe travels and definitely a speedy recovery for your DH. Just know we're here for you.

I hate to be a nag my friend but did you remember to pack some sani wipes to wipe down the areas of DH bed rails, tv remote and phone?

I know you have the spunk to challenge people to wash their hands before touching your DH.

There, that is the very last thing I can think of as I'd like your DH to come home without an hospital acquired infection.

Sorry I sound just like a "mom" sending their child off to camp or something???

Pat, it's good you found an adjustable cane. I didn't know Walmart had them. Are you getting a hospital bed for Fred or will he be able to sleep in a regular one at first? You don't need to reply but you could answer it in your blog if you want to, or not. Don't worry about anything because it won't do any good except to stress you out and you don't need that.

Tonight is supposed to be the coldest night of the year but it stays 75 in my apartment all the time without turning on the heat. I live on the 3rd floor.

Keep us posted as you can. emoticon
