Lunch with Sister-in-law$20, making the minister laugh till he cried, priceless

Friday, January 11, 2013

Some may remember my mother-in-law passed away last summer. We have spent many weekends at her home cleaning out over 60 years of stuff not an easy task since she was a hoarder. It has been an interesting process and Hubby and his siblings have been amazed with some of the things found. Report cards, diplomas, letters, all stuffed in kitchen cabinets or in cookbooks: certainly, there will be more treasures as we progress into other rooms.

The bulk of the work falls on us and another sister, which is fine because, we have a great time together and it's a great way to burn calories. Since we were both off this afternoon, we spent a couple hours. She found a box of cassette tapes; from “Time Life” we now have the hits of 1940-1960. So, since we needed a little motivation, I found a tape player with a power cord (amazing) and put on some tunes. After about 2 hours, we needed a coffee break. So here we are sitting at the table, Patti Page starts singing, “How Much is that Doggie in the Window” (song from the early 1950’s when I was just a wee babe) we both start singing along, the song finishes, my S-I-L rewinds the tape and we do it again. Half way through there’s a knock at the door, thinking it’s my other S-I-L we yell to come in and keep on singing, with appropriate woof-woofs, needless to say it wasn’t who we thought.

I’m sure if the minister and his wife ever stop laughing, this will turn into a sermon illustration, stay tuned.....

I remember all of those songs. We had a jukebox in our college restaurant/grocery store and my Dad changed the records in a circuit of jukeboxes in several counties. When the records would be considered out of date they would be stacked in a garage. I think I knew the words to every recording dating back to about 1946. Nothing more fun than singing with your sisters. I am sure they enjoyed seeing you ladies having so much fun.

That's hillarious! I'm so glad you were able to turn such a lot of work into fun AND share it with the minister and his wife! LOL

Smiling and laughing for no reason is the best reason of all!
