Did Some Smart Grocery Shopping Yesterday

Friday, January 11, 2013

Yesterday I had to take our new car to the dealership to get a free oil change and since I was in town I went grocery shopping. I'm really proud of myself because I found lots of great deals, but I also passed up some great deals too.

I have lots of yogurt for the kids (which they are very happy about) as we were out and I waited for a good deal. It was on sale for 39 cents a cup, I had coupons (that were doubled) and I also had electronic coupons, so super cheap!

Sam's Club was a stop I made (had to meet a friend there for some homeschool paperwork) and since I haven't been in a while and I am not a fan of shopping there on Saturday. I found a very nice trench coat marked down (for me) and other deals.

I used lots of coupons at all the grocery stores I went to but made sure the items I bought were things that we would use and wouldn't just sit there for months on end. I got things for me which thrilled me since I can eat them if no one else does.

One thing I was happy about getting was a very nice stoneware dish (they called it a lasagne dish) that was marked down to $3 and some change. It looks like the Le Crueset stoneware you see that is very expensive in the stores and can be used in the freezer, oven, microwave, etc.

I passed up a Babycakes mini pie maker that had lots of extra stuff (sticks, pie holder, pie maker, etc.) with it that was marked down to $3.74!!! emoticon I couldn't believe how cheap some things were at this grocery store, but figured the space was more important for me and I wasn't sure if I would actually use the items.

It was a lot of work to get all the deals I did (required buying newspapers, cutting the coupons out, filing them, matching them up with sales, etc.) but it is always worth the amount of money I save at the store.

This weekend I hope to go clothes shopping and find myself some winter clothes since both Kohl's and JC Penney's has them marked down and now is the perfect time to save some money. I have a $10 JCP reward to use (bought my daughter lots of marked down clothes this month) so will look for some dressier items for me there.

Inflated - That's so wonderful for you and your daughter!! emoticon I do a similar program called "My Points" that I get points from purchases and clicking on emails. After I get so many points I redeem them for gift cards! emoticon

I also do the Coke Rewards although I get magazine subscriptions with mine since I hate paying for those!

It sounds like we both definitely love to save money and try hard to do that!

I am back on Spark People again and had to come to read your blogs. My daughter got married last May. She and her husband traded in their cars to buy one vehicle. Now they have one car. She is a stay-at-home housewife now and sent an e-mail to me about Swagbucks. I got my first $50 gift card and chose Home Depot as the gift card I wanted. I bought a bellows and a Fiskar's weed remover for the Spring. I have thistles in one flowerbed and even wearing work gloves, I get stickers in my hands when I weed it.

I won $9 at Gamesville playing online bingo and cashed that check today and have $10 in McDonald's food as a win at My Coke Rewards.

Swagbucks gives you 10 Swagbucks for each grocery coupon used that you print from their site. It takes several days for it to appear in your points, but the points are free, they can be exchanged for gift cards or items in the Swag Store and then there is the money off at the grocery store and the points add up to free gift cards. My daughter prefers to trade her points for Amazon gift cards.

Good for you on your great deals at Pennys.

It is much more fun to see how much money you've saved than it is to actually cut out, sort, match up sales with coupons, etc. LOL! emoticon

Coupons save you more money than you think. They really add up especially when you use a lot of them like I do and go to double coupon stores!

I shop at Bi-Lo, Lowe's Foods, Aldi's and sometimes Wal-Mart for groceries. Of course I also shop at Sam's Club, but not all the time.

We used to have WAY BETTER deals in my area when Harris Teeter was here, but they closed all the stores in the nearby counties and Lowe's Foods took their place. I have heard rumors that they (Harris Teeter) is coming back which would be great!
