Taking Back My Life
Thursday, January 10, 2013
For the past 5 years I have devoted most of my waking hours to my 4th and 5th grade students. I have to take back my life. I can no longer work the ridiculous hours that my job seems to require in order to get a decent evaluation. What did I get by putting in all those extra hours? More work, more responsibility and high expectations from my boss. I also got an extra 60 pounds (on an already overweight body), high blood pressure and borderline diabetes.
I started taking back my life this week. I'm putting myself first. Yes, I still work overtime. I'm still bringing work home but I don't do it until I've eaten a healthy dinner, worked out and completed whatever needs to get done around the house. After I take care of myself I start working on whatever tasks I brought home. If I don't finish grading papers, lesson planning or the other numerous tasks by 10pm I put it back in my bag and go to bed.
It has taken a long time to figure out that my job doesn't care if I'm fat or alone or unhealthy. With the help of my friends, family and Sparkpeople I'm going to get a chance to live the life I was always meant to live.
