For my January goal to get at least 10 minutes of exercise in each day, sometimes it can be tough to dedicate a solid 10 minutes to exercise - especially when you get up at the crack of dawn to head to work and are cooped up inside an office for long periods of time every day (like yours truly) and by the time you are off work you deal with rush hour traffic to hurry home to make dinner, do laundry and all the other fun stuff that happens after the work day is over. So this week I have decided to try and beat the system. At work, sometimes I am required to print voluminous documents, copy large projects, fax documents etc. and that adds up to a lot of time of just standing there. Not that you aren't busy and focusing on what you are doing, but I started thinking "Why the heck can't you do something while you are standing there watching the fax go through?" So when I am standing there, I have started doing squats - 10 at a time - but if you do them enough throughout the day they really add up. When I have a large copy job, I use the wall and do standing push-ups, I do push ups from counter, I stretch - I'm doing my best to find 10 minutes where I didn't find it before . Sure you have to be on the look out for you co-workers and bosses to make sure they don't think you are screwing off at work but when your time isn't as flexible as you'd like and you are still doing your job, I think its a fair trade - hopefully they think so too.
In any event, I'm realizing that its really the little efforts that are going to make the big changes :)
