19 Minutes and the Computer Blues

Thursday, January 10, 2013

I don't know what my problem is today. I slept but I didn't sleep well so I woke up wanting to break the alarm. I spent too long in the shower so I didn't get to have my quiet breakfast time. Instead I was eating cold leftovers over the sink and shoving a pita and random veggies in my bag. That actually turned out really good though. Just pita, avocado, and tomatos with cucumber slices instead of chips. Highly reccommended.

Other than that though the day has been dragging. Not only has it been painfully slow on the phones but I have this start of a headache that's been barely nudging my forehead above my left eye. It doesn't hurt yet it's just annoying because I've had it all day. I'll have to take something when I get home.

On the plus side, I did get paid today and this month I get an extra paycheck which is great because I desperately need a new laptop but it just wasn't in my budget. I was thinking that maybe between the extra paycheck and my tax returns (whenever I get the paperwork to do them) I can make this happen. I've been a pretty loyal Dell user for the last decade but this last computer barely lasted 2 years before I ran into the SAME motherboard issue that I had with the Dell before it. Only that one lasted 4 years. Not to mention the customer service for Dell has gone hill. I used to praise their service to anyone who would listen but when I recieved my laptop it had a defective DVD tray (I should have taken that as a sign). So I called them told them that my tray was defective and that I needed a new one. They sent one no problem but it was the wrong one. When I tried to install it, it didn't fit. So I called back, spoke to 3 different guys (each of which treated me like an idiot). "Ma'am, I see by our records that you have such and such system and that is the DVD player for that model." "Well, I don't know what to tell you, it doesn't fit. It's too small for the slot. It's supposed to be flush with the side." We went around and around like this until the manager finally ordered a tech to come to my house. Only the tech showed up, took one look at the DVD drive and says "This drive is too small. This isn't the right one." But of course he didn't have the right one because Dell only ordered an install. They assumed I was a stupid girl that didn't know anything about computers and was just doing it wrong. So then I had to wait another day for the guy to come back and try it again with the right drive. Not gave me the right drive but installed it for me. It's literally 1 screw people. One. It's not that hard. I never heard one peep of an apology. Not that I was expecting one but it would have been nice. Their product came defective and then their people treated me like an idiot when I was trying to fix their mistake.

Fast forward 2 years when my screen started to flicker then died completely. Having gone through all this with my last Dell, I knew what to check. It wasn't the light. I switched out the whole screen. Checked the connection. That only left the motherboard but again I was treated like an idiot when I called. Only this time I was treated like an idiot they didn't have to tolerate since my warranty had expired the month before. It's just not worth it. Rather than pour anymore money into this thing, I'm just going to get a new computer. I'm thinking Asus. They seem like a reliable company and every person I know that has one loves it.

Hope you're able to get your new computer soon! Hope you have better days next week emoticon Its times like these that we just have to keep trodding on. emoticon Awesome about the pita and veggies though. Wish I was that good! I've just been eating normal things, but less of them and trying to cut out too much sugar. I really need to eat healthier like that!

My son got a really expensive Dell desktop, Alienware, super nice machine, except something happened within the first two weeks of having it and they had to send out a tech. They sent the tech with no parts, he came out, opened the machine, looked at it, told my son what was wrong (he already knew what was wrong, he told the guy on the phone what was wrong) and said he didn't have the part and would have to come back when the part came in. The part had to be ordered (didn't they build the machine, wouldn't they have the part?) and 2 weeks later they finally came back and fixed it. They should have just given my son a new machine. It isn't like you buy one of their machines (online anyway) and have it the next day, it takes weeks because you design it online and then they build it. Rambling here....anyway, my house is currently full of Dells but won't be once they start crapping out.

I hope you enjoy your new machine when you get it. Do a review after you've had it for a while, let us know what you think.
