challenging dinner -- ideas?

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Here's the deal:

We're having a family over for dinner that has multiple food restrictions. I will be cooking for a total of 13 people, so I can't do anything too intricate -- no time. And everything has to be able to be made ahead of time and just heated up or crock-pot.

Food restrictions:
No gluten
No dairy
No fish
No legumes
No raw vegetables or fruit
No cooked tomatoes. Other cooked veggies/fruits are okay

I was thinking deli meat and some kind of stew? Mashed potatoes? Roasted veggies? Any lighter ideas out there that would appeal to kids?

Thank you!

Thanks for the advice. There are two problems with that -- (1) at least one person has all of those restrictions, and (2) there will be a lot of kids so a lot of chaos.

I think we'll just do a simple braised roast over mashed potatoes with deviled eggs and roasted potatoes.

I'm with Jewelle, it seems impossible to make one or two dishes that conform to all of the restrictions you listed. I would definitely make multiple dishes with cards.

Good luck, that really sounds challenging!

Be careful. Alot of deli meat has gluten in it. You would be surprised!

You've got a tough menu ahead of you. I would probably make a few items and serve buffet style w/ little cards that say what is being served. Let your guests figure out what they can and cannot eat.
