Sub 80!

Thursday, January 10, 2013

I just finished a 10 mi training run and finished up in 79:50, at just under 8 min mile pace, on average. According to my garmin, my slowest mile was mile six in 8:18 (and with the route's biggest hill) and my fastest mile was mile eight in a 7:33.

It is a beautiful winter day in New England. There is still a lot of snow on the ground from the storms around Christmas, but the roads and most of the sidewalks are mostly clear. It was 42 deg and sunny but windy (weather.com says 20-30 mph, which made for a stiff headwind for my last two miles).

I have raced 5 milers under 40 before, but hadn't gone under 80 on a ten miler. There is a local 10 mile race coming up in the end of Feb that I would like to do. I didn't get to run it last year, but I remember thinking that I could shoot for about 80 min if I had good conditions on race day. I feel a lot stronger this year and think I could probably finish the race in the 75-78 min.

It was a great run today, I felt strong. Looking forward to some more good runs coming up!

Isn't it a great feeling to have a training run at a pace that used to be a race pace?

If you can run under 80 in a training run, coming in under 80 for an organized race should be a given. You'll always run faster in a competitive field.

Way to go! Excellent pace, especially for a 10 miler with wind and snow on the ground. emoticon

Good times! Do it again tomorrow, think February run. I'm on LI, a bit south, but you're right, it was a beautiful winter day, dry, crisp and (we had) no wind.
