Found a Fitbit One

Thursday, January 10, 2013

This morning, on my way to the gym, I noticed something (looked like a pedometer) lying on the sidewalk. Picked it up. Lo and behold, it was a newish looking Fitbit One !

I'm guessing someone (found out later her name is Liz), lost her Fitbit. She must have had it in her pocket because when I clicked the device to my waistband, it was really secure. So, I have a Fitbit One ! LOL !!! I used it this morning and found that the steps seem pretty accurate. I know the distance I walk in the morning, so the estimated step count was pretty close.

I went online to learn what the different features were as well as to find out how to zero out the figures. One thing I was concerned about (and my concerns were later confirmed) was how to charge the battery. Needless to say, I may now have a Fitbit One, but I don't have a charger. According to the Fitbit website, the battery could last 5-7 days days with a single charge IF Liz fully charged the battery. eh-hem.

I can buy a Fitbit charging cable from Fitbit. It's $9.95 with $3.95 shipping. not bad, I suppose. Have to buy from Fitbit, it's not available from Amazon or any other website as a separate purchase. At least, not yet.

So, the question, do I pay the $14 bucks to Fitbit to get the cable now ? Or wait and see if it turns up cheaper in a few weeks online ? I may just suck it up and buy the cable. Basically, I'd have a new Fitbit for $14.00 instead of having to pay $100+ for a new kit.

Obviously, I feel bad for "Liz" who lost her Fitbit, but her loss is my gain.

PS - Love the Craigslist idea ! I'll keep an eye out for lost/found posters in the area as well as check CL for a week. If nothing turns up, then I'll buy the cable.

The honest thing to do would be to post a lost and found with the gym. That way she could contact the gym who could contact you to get it back. There's also a lost-and-found on the Fitbit site.

So what's the update? Did Liz figure out she lost her fitbit yet? LOL I can't imagine she wouldn't have already called the gym. My wife thought she left her kindle at the gym and called them to check if it had been turned in. She later found it under her car seat where it had slipped out of her bag when she made a quick stop on the way home to avoid a dumb driver.

$100!? I'd be velcro-ing that onto my bra! Well, I hope you find the owner.

I think if you call Fitbit's customer service number, they could probably figure out who it is registered to. I hope you can find the owner, I know I'd sure be upset if I lost mine!

Hmmm...Fitbit. I will have to check this out. It's still on my New Year's resolution list to get a heart monitor for exercise. Good luck with everything!

I might be able to help with finding Liz. I belong to the FitBit site and can post over there if you me too. FitBit Ones sell for $99.

Hmmmm, how much do those things cost? If it's not more than $30, ah, finders keepers. Although it would be funny to post "Found, Lost Fitbit" posters up where you found it.

(I was so in love with my pedometer, until the battery died. It took it back to REI, and the battery they sold me didn't work. I'm putting my husband on a mission to find me a new battery.)

You could probably find some on Ebay. Try finding Liz first.

Yeah, I agree. I'd try to track down who it belongs to. Is there anyway you can tell from the Fitbit if she's registered on line on the Fitbit site thingy? I mean does it hook up with an account or anything? Angel might could help you with that. She's a devout Fitbit user.

A free FitBit would be a nice New Years present, but if I lost mine I'd sure be sad - especially if it looks like a new one. It might not hurt to look on Craigslist lost and found to see if she posted something about it. :) If not, I'd just pay the $14 for the cable now rather than waiting.

Just keep in mind when you hook up a fit bit, it's attached to a unique identifier that might notify "liz". I would see if you can borrow a charger before going through the expense and see.
