Sticking to a healthy diet

Thursday, January 10, 2013

So I have been on SparkPeople since the end of October. For the first month I found sticking to the recommended diet really easy, and infact I had a difficult time eating the amount of calories they recommended. But since mid-December I am having a terrible time sticking to healthy eating. I start out well each day and have a healthy breakfast full of veggies and protein, but I get so busy during the day that I eat whatever is quick and easy for the rest of the day!

Take yesterday for example. I started the day with a piece of quinoa bread (I am gluten intolerant), topped with peanut butter, and had a mandarin orange and 1/2 c greek yogourt. Perfect! It was all well within my plan and calorie quota and should have made me satisfied until lunch. Then I went to kickboxing for an hour and came home RAVENOUS!! I ended up eating my hubbies left over chinese takeout even though the while time I was eating it I was telling myself I should be eating something healthier!

That has been the pattern of my past month. Start each day great and then slip up. I am loving the exercising bit! I have taken up kickboxing, running, and going to the gym regularly but dammit if I can get it through to my head to stop eating CRAP!

Thanks for letting me have a place to complain. I am now going to have a healthy breakfast and then head to the gym!

Thanks! That is what I should start doing. Especially since tomorrow I am working, and the last thing I need to do is stop at a fast food place for lunch!

I find that my best tactic for eating healthy is to plan out my next day's intake, bag it, and take it! I use the weekends to make up some of the dishes for the week and put them in the freezer -- this has really helped me to stay true to a healthy eating style.
