Good Morning

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Work dragged so much yesterday - I consumed way too much candy in the afternoon out of boredom :( At one point I caught up reading all 76 blog posts I was behind on through my google reader. *sigh* But then some work came in that got me really excited, except that the civilian personnel office is clearly trying to do something that will get them in a lot of trouble. Honestly, I dont understand how these people dont understand the regulations that apply to them. So I was excited to get to work this morning and look into it further (I love research) but I know once I meet with them, they will not be happy with me because I will once again tell them they are doing something wrong :( I love labor and employment law - I just wish my clients knew how to do their jobs correctly so they dont set themselves up for lawsuits they will lose...

After work yesterday I headed to the gym and got in 30 minutes on the elliptical. 30 minutes seemed a bit daunting because the elliptical is kind of boring to me. It surprisingly went quick, but I was disappointed that the calorie burn wasnt as high as I was expecting. I didnt have my HRM on so I was only using the machine's calculation - I think next time I will wear my HRM. Not a huge deal. I still had a significant calorie burn for the day and despite my candy-eating in the afternoon, I was well within my calorie range set by MFP and fitbit. :) The woman on the elliptical next to me had her ipad on her machine and was watching either a movie or tv show. It never dawned on me to do that! I wouldnt do it while running on the treadmill, but for the elliptical or bike it could be a good way to make the time pass! I will have to remember that for next time :)

After the gym I headed home for some Buffy time. I also made a taco bake for dinner. I used to make these all of the time, and yesterday it dawned on me that I hadnt made one in over a year! No wonder I've been eating taco bell. I love tacos and mexican flavored food - I forgot about making taco bakes, that are clearly much healthier, with my homemade taco seasoning which cuts down significantly on sodium. Yum! I brought leftovers for lunch today. I was pretty exhausted by the evening and was falling asleep on my couch around 8pm so I decided to go to bed early and not stay up reading for an hour. When my alarm went off this morning I was still feeling pretty tired - I think my body is adjusting to working out regularly again.

Today is our monthly wing run, so this afternoon we will close early and everyone will run either 2.5 or 3.5 miles. I plan to take the 2.5 mile run. It's pretty cold out (I think my car said 18 degrees this morning) so hopefully it will warm up by 3pm. Depending on how I feel afterwards, I will try to get in an additional short workout when I get home.

I saw on one of the scrolling marquees this morning that they are bringing back the Lazy Man Triathlon next month! I am excited! I was short by about 5 miles total last year because I went out of town at the end of February and couldnt fit in the swimming, but this year I am determined to do it! Of course, I dont have a gym with a pool anymore - the base that is closer to me does have a pool - but it costs $2 for lap swim for active duty. I cant believe they charge for swimming! But it is good cross-training, and I do want to start swimming again... In fact, my tentative half marathon training plan I am putting together has swimming listed in it!

I started bringing my Nook on the treadmill (when I walk at an incline) and on the elipticall and the time flies by! I can easily get 45 minutes in while I am reading a good book and it doesn't even feel like I am exercising. Actually, I have been going to the gym at work more lately just to get some time in to read emoticon

Good luck on your run this afternoon emoticon

Yay for finally having some work to do!
I think you got a good workout...I need to listen to music or watch TV when I'm on the elliptical or bike.
Taco bake does sound tasty...enjoy the leftovers.
Yikes!!! That is cold. I hope the run goes well.
Yay for the Lazy Man Triathlon!!
