Hot 10 Miler

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Yesterday, Wed, Jan 9, 2013 I set out to complete a 14 mile run/walk.

I got started a little late in the morning. My run started at 9:30 am rather than my usual 7:30 am. This was to be a major game changer, because the Grinch may have not stolen Christmas, but I think he did steal Florida's winter.

Typically, we hover around 55 degrees this time of year. Yesterday, it was 80 degrees. It was a beautiful day and I was blessed with intermittent clouds, but by the time noon rolled around I was moving super slow.

I really wanted to squeeze out a couple more miles so I could surpass my longest distance of 11 miles, but slogging out 20 minute miles, it would take another 40 minutes in the sun.

So at 10 miles, I called it a day.

On one hand I am a little bummed out I didn't reach 12 miles and set a new record. Still, for me 10 miles is long way and while I was very slow at the end, I was proud of what I was able to achieve.

Lesson learned: just because its January, doesn't mean its winter. Get out the door early!

Weather can always be an issue.

I have the opposite! Cold and occassionally icy!

10 miles is fantastic!! and, ahem, where I live, January means it's definitely winter. but not nice cold, dry winter or snowy winter. just miserable, cold wet winter.
oh well...

and don't worry - you'll get there!

80? Wow, we just got snow last night! Enjoy the warmth, but I do understand how difficult that is to run in!
