WOOHOOO!!! HAPPY New year!! (better late than never, right?)
Its 2013 and there's lots to be excited about. I could not be happier to be leaving 2012 in the dust. Not that it was a "bad" year, per say... There were some amazing experiences and positive things I am blessed to be able to say happened. But this last year was also filled with a lot of hurt and loss and I'd prefer to continue my healing process by moving on from it.
One thing I am grateful and proud of is this New Years I was able to make new years resolutions that DIDN'T include "lose hoards or pounds." For too many new years (more than I can count, or care to admit) losing weight was my "old standby resolution," and for lots of years I either ended up gaining weight, or spinning my wheels going nowhere, leaving me frustrated and depressed.
Starting a year in "maintenance mode" was a big feat! I am over the moon to be able to say this year my resolutions include: maintain goal weight, maintain my work out regimine, hike the grand canyon, various 5ks, eat well, and tone up. Its been a long journey to get to this place and I intend to continue my journey of growth and empowerment filled with maintaning all that I've accomplished.
I managed to surive the holidays relatively unscathed. My walllet is definatley on the empty side (thank you Santa for being generous LOL), but it was all worth it. We got to spend some quality time with the family and kep Christmas relatively low key. I survived a week long visit from my inlaws. Also "mostly" unscathed. I managed to keep my eating mostly on point which for the Holidays is a nice thing to be able to say. I was on a pretty big salad and seafood kick actually, so that helped. I indulged here and there, but moderation is getting easier and easier these days so it wasn't bad.
The one place I probalby over indulged was on the alcohol front. I have probably not so eloquently discovered I'm kind of a wine-o, LOL. Has anyone else ever had warm german mulled wine???? Holy Moly!! The most wondefully tastey winter drink... DANGER DANGER!!
We had a fun new years party at our house with friends and family.
We also had family photos taken. A friend I've known since high school was so generous to donate her photography talents with us and took some really fun and unique pictures. I went to costco for the prints and was able to completely update ALL the frames in our house (even add a few new ones) for just $28 dollars! HOLLA!! OH, also a new years resolutions. Be less "spendy" and save more money!!
My favorite Chrstmas present (besides my present to myself a Kindle Fire HD, which by the way I can't put down) is our new Juicer, the Nutribullet. Thank you MIL, a present I'll actually use ;) Anyone with any good juicer recipes send them my way. I am looking forward to experimenting!
And what holiday celebration isn't complete with out shopping!? Savvy spender shopping of coarse though. I can't be breaking resolutions already LOL. My work pants situation has been a sad sad one for a LOOONG time. WAY too long!!! I actually have a nick name at work..... "Droopy Drawers" because my work pants are about 5 sizes on me, but I have been avoiding spending money on "work clothes." I FINALLY broke down and took advantage of some great sales and coupons to buy new work pants. Hello 3 perfectly bun shaping pairs of pants for only $60!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE New York & Co (and clearance sales plus city cash!).
AAAAAAAnnnnddd, what's a new year with out a "new look" this time I actully died my hair a color that doesn't look like burnt copper LOL. So the new Elvira look... Tada :) lol I like it mucho better.
Now that the Holidays are behind me I am really excited to look at the year ahead and am getting pumped for the things to come. Hubby is done with his EMT program at school and is actively trainig now with the Phoenix Fire Dept with their Crisis Response team. It's a volunteer position, but it will hopefully provide him with insurmountable benefits from the training and volunteer experience, and open some doors career wise. Keep your fingers crossed for him, he's worked so hard persuing his dream and is dying to get his new career started.
I am still working the two jobs. My full time accounting job during the day, and helping my friends cornea specialist office move their records to electronic records at night... Not ALL nights, its a great gig because I can work whenever I want.
On the fitness front I am jumping back into the swing of things after a holiday hiatus. I'm finding a way to juggle my busy work schedule and family life to squeeze some fitness in. I've got my gym bag in the car so I can swing by 24 HR on my way home at night. I'm signed up for a color run on January 26th. Climb to Conquer Cancer in February. April we are supposed to hike the Grand Canyon again. This year we are ramping up to really get involved with the kids in scouts. I hope to start attending their monthly camp outs in the spring (I can't handle the cold weather camping so I'll wait for it to warm up a bit LOL). Very excited for lots of fitness adventures this year.
That's about all thats new for me. I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and your new year is off to a rocking good start! Lets all make it great!!!
