Not good news, sadly.

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

Not good news. Sophie had another fit at lunchtime, 4 1/2 days after the last one. The blood tests came back normal, and the vet is as sure as he can be, given her symptoms and indicators, and without the expensive brain scan, that she has a brain tumour. This means that the meds MAY give her a little more time, but not much. He says the fact that she took four hours to return to normal after the fit today is not good, and that each fit has weakened her back end significantly. He says that if she fits again it would be best to put her to sleep, and I have to agree with him. It would not be fair to let this carry on any further.

So, we are giving the epilepsy meds a chance, but are preparing ourselves for her last visit to the vets.

I'm so sorry, my pets have always been a huge part of my life, and I understand the pain this sort of thing brings.

Lexie I am so sorry hun.
I remember the agony of the awful decision for our poodle who had womb cancer and a neurological problem that made her keel over every time we took her for a walk.
It is the one last loving thing you can for do for her to end her trauma but it is so hard, my heart goes out to you and your family.
All you can do now is take care of her and make her comfy.

Take care hun, sending some hugs for you emoticon

    Lexie,

We recently had to euthanize our Dalmatian, Chocolat, after 12 years with her and 4 days before Christmas. I'm sorry Sophie is having such a hard time but you will know when the time is right to say, "Good-bye" to her. I'm sure she has had a great life with you and many people say that we will be reunited with our beloved pets at the Rainbow Bridge. Please continue to care for Sophie and yourself during this difficult time. My heart aches for what you are going through. Wishing you much strength now and in the future! emoticon

Peace,

Jeff

I am so sorry to hear this. It is so hard to lose our furry family members - they give us so much love. You have been a wonderful mom to Sophie, and I know that she has been a lucky dog to have you and Tara for people.

I hope the meds help!

Oh dear Lexie... that's one of the hardest spots to be in.

A couple of months ago, we had to put down our 19 year old cat. She would probably have lived forever, but all the horrible things she had to endure just to maintain life (blind, deaf, couldn't keep food down, and a slew of nasty stuff too graphic to relate), I had to admit that I was being selfish because I didn't want to lose her.

I think being allowed to come to the conclusion and making the decision has helped me immensely. Now when I think of her, and I have so many wonderful memories of her that I thought would make me sad, but actually they always leave me with a smile in my heart because I know she is no longer hurting.

You'll know when it's time and the right thing to do to honor her.

Cathy
