Roast in the oven

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

DH bought a 4lb beef roast, so it made it's way to my 1958 baking dish, with onions and broth, and into the electric oven.

I am glad it is electric as DH let the propane get to low, to 0% on the not too accurate gauge. He has to tap it and it jumps lower. So it was at 5% he thought, but no, lower. So 11 months from last fill, he finally calls for propane.

It is a heat wave today also, 45 for the high temperature, and with oven on the kitchen is warm enough, rather nippy in the corners of the house where I go.
I have hoodies and warm clothes so not a big thing with the January thaw here.

It is to drop down to usual winter soon, so the timing is good. And we will have some meat for meals.
I made DH stuffed peppers as he wanted (I don't eat them) but he ate four in two meals, so we have to make more food. We baked potatoes but he ate 7 of them (not very large) but also have sweet potatoes done for later on. Having a full fridge and pantry is a treasure in the winter.

I think I will go stand by the oven now.

Same weather here...a break from the biting cold. I also always feel good when I've got extra meals made in advance, but I don't get to it often enough!

I don't exactly know why, but your post reminds me of some of my favorite parts of the book series "Little House". I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading about ma putting up tons of food for the winter in a root cellar. Then in the cold of winter, when they are near-starving, they get a treat of a baked apple or half of potato each. Sounds silly, but that all gives me some kind of comfort...like your kitchen right now!

I hope the propane guy shows up before the deep freeze returns tomorrow!

It's shorts weather here. I put on capri pants today because they are good for doing my fitness. I made some Hungry Girl little pizzas for the family as an after-school snack. Easy, cheap and low cal/fat. Gotta love the Hungry Girl! I guess you could break out the crock pot next if your gas powered stove is out of commission. Good thing you have an electric oven.
