So i'm reading this book - "Why We Get Fat - and what to do about it" by Gary Taubes, and I have to say that it has opened my eyes. It explains that the calories in/calories out paradigm is in fact what has CAUSE the obesity epidemic that plagues modern western society and goes on to extrapolate that it is in fact the Carbohydrates in our diets (refined sugars etc.) that have been introduced into our society since our hunter-gatherer days. This theory states that our bodies cannot cope with all the refined sugars and easily digestible carbs found in breads, pastas, etc. because we have not evolved consuming these products - that the ultimately best diet for you is the diet we were eating at the beginning - high in fats and animal proteins, low in carbs.
With this in mind - I am going to try this out - for years I have been struggling with the calories in/calories out paradox and failing to get any real results - or if I do see a weight loss, it is gained back really fast. Coupled with this discouraging reality I am moody, always hungry, and always tired. With a high fat/low carb diet, you are allowed to eat as much as you want of the recommended foods (until you are full) - yes, you are NOT COUNTING CALORIES! And this diet is said to keep you fuller, longer. It also helps to lower triglycerol levels and raise HDL ("good cholesterol") levels.
I will keep tracking my foods, but not for the calories, for the fat and carbs. and I will keep blogging about this experience.
