runner sneaker saga and a morning workout

Yesterday I got quite a bit of work done at work...which means I have no work to do now. I totally forgot to bring my study materials to work with me today. I should have known better. They were sitting on my couch when I left! Oh well. I'll figure something out..
Yesterday my boss apologized to me. Because on Friday while I was in NJ with J, my office texted me asking if and when J was going to sign some paperwork and send it back to them. I didnt realize I was his keeper. It really pissed us both off. J actually sent an email to my boss asking that he have his staff refrain from using me to contact him because it is unprofessional and unethical. I thought when I got new bosses this issue would go away, but apparently not. But now that J has said something, hopefully it wont happen again. The office would never do that with another commander - just contact their significant other if they cant get in touch with him. Plus, they make a big deal about me staying out of J's work because of the apperance of a conflict of interest, but then they are the ones creating that issue in the first place. I didnt say anything to my boss when he apologized because I am passive like that, and hopefully it will stop now, but I really wanted to vent about it anyway.
I left work early so that I could pick up a prescription refill at the pharmacy before they closed, and then I went to the gym to get in a 2.5 mile run. Well, when I got to the gym, since I got there earlier than planned, the treadmills were all occupied, so I hopped on a recumbent bike that seemed to have a pedaling problem. Luckily, after about 5 minutes a treadmill freed up so I grabbed it real quick. I bought new running sneakers last week on amazon and had them shipped to my parents house. They are the Asics GT2170. I wore this model before switching to the Brooks I've been wearing. I switched back because my Brooks were occassionally giving me issues that the Asics never did. However, I was painfully (truthfully) disappointed with the Asics. I had all kinds of pain running in them. My toes felt smushed, I was getting all sorts of shin pain, and my hips felt off. It was a horrible run, and I cut it short at 1.5 because I could not continue like that. I never had these problems with the Asics before, and I ordered the same size that I wore in those. I guess for now I will stick with the Brooks until I can get to a running store and get refitted for sneakers again.
I went to the commissary afterwards to get my grocery shopping done. Normally, if I am out of town and then come back on a not-weekend day, I put off grocery shopping until the weekend, and eat like crap this week. But I have a goal to minimize eating out so I made the trip and filled up my cart. I was also glad I chose the commissary instead of another grocery store because I bought a TON of food and only spent $65. Score for me. When I got home, I played with Buffy for a bit and then cooked a healthy dinner. Cajun style chicken sausage, green and red peppers, white onion, garlic, basil, crushed red pepper, and baby argula. OMG it was so delicious and when I calculated the recipe, one serving was only 200 calories. Yummy! I even had room for some slow-churned ice cream as an after dinner snack. :)
Buffy seems to be adjusting well to being back at our house. But she seems a bit less energetic than usual. I mean, normally at 8pm she is still running around and full of energy, but at 8pm she was curled up on the couch with me ready to go to sleep. Dont get me wrong - I like it, and I know its probably just because she's getting older and mellowing out now - shes 1.5 years old so she's transitioning out of the puppy stage. I just hope she is ok. She wasnt eating much either, but I think its probably still a stomach adjustment after flying - thats pretty normal. In any event, we went up to bed, and she curled up next to me while I read for an hour. I set a goal to read 40 books this year. I have completed one so far, and am halfway through my second book. I will probably finish that one by tomorrow, and then I need to read the book for next week's book club.
This morning I woke up very rested, and got in a short circuit workout that I put together yesterday. It was shorter than I had planned - it only took 16 minutes. But hey, at least I got in a workout. It went like this:
25 jumping jacks
15 step-ups (each leg)
15 reverse crunches
15 jump squats
15 butterfly situps
My Polar HRM said I burned 144 calories, so I cant complain. I packed my gym bag for after work, and plan on getting in either some elliptical or stationary biking before heading home.
Now I'm just sipping on my mid-morning protein shake and figuring out what to do for the rest of the day. :)
