2012 was a pretty good year for me. I managed to get down to my goal of 145 when I wanted to. Although I didn't stay there and a few pounds managed to creep back on, I am nearly 10lbs less than I was around this time last year so feeling pretty good about that. I also was able to run in a marathon relay with some friends from work (my leg was 6.5 miles and trained about 5-6 weeks having only run about 3-4 before training).
I kept pretty motivated and we kept up exercise throughout the summer going on bike rides (10-20 miles generally) every weekend we could, but unfortunately the food side let me down. We would ride our bikes and then stop for food before coming back to the car and of course I was not making the best choices.
My husband also decided that he wanted to get fit and joined Sparkpeople in February of 2012. He managed to lose about 40lbs by mid summer. I am so proud of him! To help us show the kids that we want to live a healthier lifestyle, we decided to do a more "fit" type vacation this year so went to Hocking Hills and did some hiking and canoeing which was really fun. Hopefully the kids will remember these kinds of things for the future.
Then of course school comes and although I was doing well with exercising, again, I was not tracking my food and not eating as well as I should. My husband and I decided to join the kids in karate classes since costwise it was not much more and it would force us to keep fit on certain days. Plus I don't have to sit and wait for them. It's much more fun to join in!
I managed to make a pretty good push in November and December, and managed to keep my weight steady. I am now about 10lbs lighter than I was in January 2012 (didn't enter my weight until Jan 12th so not sure of exact difference).
There was a "Committment Day" 5k here in Cincinnati on New Year's Day and my whole family did it. Although I was supposed to either sign up for the race or work that day (it was sponsored by Lifetime Fitness where I work), I am still glad we made the effort. I am committing to being healthier and fitter this year.
I am getting back into the swing of things and back gradually into exercising and tracking my food. I am hoping to be able to start running again soon once I get some warts removed from my foot. I would like to run the Flying Pig half marathon in May. I am so happy to get back into karate after the 2 week break for Christmas and am looking forward to our second belt test this month.
Overall, I'm very happy with my progress over the last year, even though it wasn't exactly what I had planned. I am looking forward to an even better year this year and hopefully I will finally get to my goal weight. I am really going to push hard to get there and try not to have as many bumps as before. I am ready to tackle that challenge--I am committed.
