Tweaking and training

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

Training: just do it. Sixteen and a half weeks to the marathon. Last night one of my training plans said "30 minute run". Well, since I kind of run SLOW... i.e. walk/jog intervals, 30 minutes doesn't take me very far. And it was after supper, and I felt... sluggish. So walked more frequently. But I did it.

Which leads me to think I need to tweak my schedule a bit... and run before I eat on the after-work workouts. Because put in the minutes and put in the miles I must.

Number one thing is to never exercise after a full meal. I am a little surprised you did, especially when it gets so dark so soon. I rather get it over with early, while there is still daylight. Call me strange, but I like to see where I am putting my big size 11's :P
If the issue is you are hungry, then make a light healthy snack before you go out. I always eat an energy bar before my morning workouts. Just a little something so you have some fuel, but aren't full.
You go girl!!

Great job, Barb! That's what it takes: doing it when you don't feel like it. And then add to that figuring out how to do better next time. Very good for you!! -Marsha

I can't run on a full stomach. Great job getting out there and being committed to doing it even when it was hard. You'll get your plan tweaked to what works for you.

The cold winter weather doesn't help either; I'd much rather be curled up in bed with a good book!
