Scale obsession

I've had this debate with myself for a long it good to weigh yourself everyday or every other day? When I way myself everyday (or just about everyday) I feel it helps me keep on track if I weigh myself in the morning and I'm up a pound or so when I'm at work and there's a bday party I'm more motivated to say NO to that yummy looking piece of cake. But on the flip side, when I weigh myself all the time it pretty much dictates my mood for the day, which is soooo not good. It's so disappointing when you have been working so hard and eating the right things to be up a pound or even two. And yes I know that body weight fluctuates everyday.... I am a nurse and I totally get it and understand that. But that doesn't matter in my own brain...I want to be down not up. So what sdi you think? Is it bad to weigh yourself everyday or weekly? If there is anybody out there that is reading my blog?!?!

    I weight weekly and maybe mid-week just to check in with myself. This seems a good balance for me, if I weigh everyday I get a bit crazy!

    I weigh in every day. It is probably an obsessive behavior of mine, but I very much feel the need to track it and that it helps me to stay on track. It also depicts my mood for the day and can definitely be a negative for me. It is a struggle for so many. But, in my opinion, it doesn't matter how often you weigh in, it matters how you allow that number to make you feel. If you weigh in once per week or once per month even...if that number makes you feel negative, is it any more healthy than weighing in every single day? You have to find your balance and work on how the scale makes you feel, no matter how often you get on it.

People have suggested to me, and I agree, to celebrate non-scale victories and measure your progress in other ways.

emoticon Measure your body, BMI, and or BF%.
emoticon Celebrate your streaks of staying in range or making good choices with food.
emoticon Take notice when you are able to complete a workout with less effort, run farther or faster, life heavier weights and so on.
