Determining where you start (Blog #435)

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

"Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start." Nido Qubein

It is feeling GREAT to let my mind go into my reflective mode, to spend a few minutes breathing and thinking about what I believe, where I want to be, where I am now and my plan for tomorrow. I suspect I am no different than many people who spend their days developing plans of action, implementing plans, evaluating the plans and adjusting as needed. I do a good job at work! it is what I love to do. I am energized by developing plans to move a system forward.

And then I get home, and I am pooped and all out of plans. Well, the real deal is that when I am not focused, I do not "find" (look for?) the energy to do what I need to do to figure out my plans, implement them and evaluate them and adjust as needed. I bet if this were an "emergency"situation I would figure it out real fast! Nothing like a crisis to make me kick into gear. But that is NOT the way I want to live the rest of my life - waiting for a crisis to motivate me. What a waste!

My focused self has been screaming to bubble up and get to work. Well, either the scream was clearly on mute or I had my fingers in my ears in all year. HELLO in there, Diane! Are you listening? Barely. But now, the volume has been turned up and I have taken my fingers out of my ears at least a little bit and the focused self is gaining traction.

What I love about this quote is that it reminds me that today is my opportunity to get started and tomorrow is my opportunity to keep going. I am good with where I am and where I need to start. It is what it is. I am thinking that the moment I told myself the truth of just being lazy, TODAY became my friend, my motivator, my door into action. (I really mean it SP friends, I really was being lazy - not burned out, not striving for perfect, I just was being lazy. Thank you for your kindness though... )

I am feeling the itch of blogging coming back. I am as busy as ever at school starting a new program, so I will do my best to take some time 2-3 times per week to reflect here. As ONEKIDSMOM says, it is my new line in the sand and I have kicked up some sand and and ready to get things going!

Next blog... 2012 recap and then ... 2013 goals ... can't wait to share :)

Sounds like you are busy and enjoying life. Hope you do find time to blog!

BTW, I'm thinking about joining a 10 week triathlon training club that starts tomorrow (and, I'm still undecided!), but training for a duathlon. I haven't really swam since my 2 sprint tris which were 2 years ago. Trying to work up the 'nerve'... just about there!

Again, another great blog Diane, and it hits home. Another Spark friend (GETFIT2LIVE) recently wrote about her goals for 2013 and one of them was about intentional living. The two of you really have me thinking about what I am doing with my life, and what I really want to do. Great quote BTW and beautiful photo!

Looking forward to your next blog.
