Was it the honey or the salt water ?

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

For a challenge this week we were asked to try a home remedy for an aliment that we are having, of course when I read the challenge on Saturday I didn't have anything bothering me and was wondering what I would do this week, well as my luck would have it I got sick. I woke up Sunday morning with a horrible sore throat, So I read the article on sore throats I had heard about gargling with salt water but never heard about how honey was supposed to help with a sore throat.

On Sunday I was trying to just deal with the pain trying to use advil and cough drops to help nothing seemed to give me any relief. On Monday morning I had enough, I decided to try some of these home remedies thinking that it would not do anything but also would not hurt to try. I drank a few glasses of tea with honey in them and I gargled with warm salt water they both seemed to help with the pain for a short time however it still returned. On Tuesday morning I woke up to my surprise I had very little pain, I have never had a sore throat hurt so bad and then over night seem to almost be gone. Something had helped my sore throat, which one of the home remedies it was I will never know, but I do know that next time I have a sore throat I will be using both to help with it.

Here is a link to the article if you would like to read more about it www.homeremedyhaven.com/

For me, it's the salt water that does the trick. Not sure why - does the salt help with the inflammation, maybe? Anyways, I'm glad one or both of those remedies worked for you. :) Hope you continue feeling better!

I used to get terrible sore throats (puss and swollen) as a teenager/college student, and gargling salt water always knocked them out in at most 3 days. I've never been a fan of the taste of honey, so I don't know if that works at all. Glad you're feeling better.

I think it may be the honey. I have always heard of drinking a hot toddy(?) when you have a sore throat. Honey was once used as an antiseptic as well in bandages and stuff, back in the "old days". The hot toddy has lemon juice(vitamin C), whiskey (alcohol for numbing the pain) and honey (antiseptic). this is just Brandi-ology as a friend calls it...I am glad you are feeling better...spark on! emoticon
