day 8 ( Tuesday) Report here

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

If you read yesterday's blog you will know about the DAIRY dilemma, so from today, no more goat's milk or cheese! ( URGH!!!) not easy, but I will do it for the sake of the challenge!

So, like Bonnie, I am kinda not really having coffee either then because it tastes HORRIBLE with almond milk. So I guess from today I am coffee free too, so I will add that to my list.

I am so impressed with how everyone is doing! I have had some great feedback from some of you and that is wonderful! That is what I want, THIS IS YOUR CHALLENGE!! Make it what YOU want it to be, in other words if you have a question or concern, let me know and I will do my best to help. If you are bored with your menu and need some help, let me know and I will post a recipe.

Last night I did my side bends with dumbells and my core exercises for the first time this year! It felt SOOOO good!
Cleaning up the diet really has got my energy levels back up ! BONUS!!

ON the CAR front, we tried charging the car battery to see if we could get my car up and running again and then you are supposed to run it for 10 minutes once it is charged...so there I am sitting in the car waiting for the ten minutes to be up, happy that the car is "charged" or so I thought, when just as I got to the 10 minute mark the car died! URGH! Shows that there is something wrong either with the battery or the alternator ( the thing that charges the battery)

Sigh!!! And there I was getting so excited to have my wheels back!
Oh well.....

I have to use the VAN on Wed since the kids have dentist appointments and so I will have to take DH to work and then keep the car during the day!

Things COMING UP in my posts :

( this is to let you know AND to remind myself so I don't forget)

1. Beef Stir Fry Recipe
2. how to eat healthy on a budget
3. Vegetarian meals for those on the challenge who are vegetarian
4. apple crisp recipe
5. a blog on tea
and there will be more tips , AND....yes, you guessed it, more homework!

So if you did not do your homework from yesterday, please read yesterday's blog and report back to me!

Did I mention that you all are amazing! love it!

Tuesday was 0 coffee, only green and herbal tea (truth is I'm outta my fav earl grey and it was easy to say no to the other black teas in my stash right now). I did have white pasta in my supper but I had a very small portion and upped my protein instead. Other than that it was whole wheat or grains in everything else.

Am also lowering my dairy intake - only a little hard cheddar or parmesan in as toppings, a little greek yogurt and milk recipes or on cereal (which I don't have often)

Soda was another "success" for my standards - I only had 4 small glasses yesterday, 2 of which were a third milk, the other 2 had a 1/2 oz of rum (that is my major addiction - cola mixed with milk - I could drink it non stop - lucky for me I don't - at least not anymore).

I told people about my challenge as my homework.

Made a wonderful island beef stew dish last night. Overall it was pretty healthy and not too high in calories per serving, but it was higher in the sugar and sodium content than I would have liked...... but boy oh boy was it tasty! Will try to jig the recipe to make it a bit healthier without loosing all the flavour when I try it next time.

I am very interested in learning more about ensuring I'm getting all the nutrients I need as I continue to make adjustments to what I eat. I know all the vitamins and minerals are important but I'm particularly interested in ensuring I'm getting enough Iron and Vitamin Bs as these are things that I can sometimes get low on.

Thank you for doing all of this. The items you plan on addressing sound awesome! Oh, and I'm also checking out the 30 day challenge spark emailed me about this morning regarding Giaimtv.com called Connect 2 Happiness 30 day challenge. It's free, only 30 days... and tips on how to be happy, make others happy and just enjoy life might not be such a bad challenge to take. Anyone care to join me?

    Day 8

Kristin - Detroit, U.S.A. No bad white stuff - white sugar/white flour.

I am a black coffee drinker. Since I started sparking I pretty much only have it in the morning. I used to have a cup after work, but now it doesn't taste good then. Somehow my palate changed.

I am hanging in there with the challenge. So far, so good. Last night I wanted a sweet drink. It was a crazy craving. Could not quench my thirst and fruit didn't curb it. Still didn't have any. Stayed strong.

Feeling better health wise. Stayed on track. Went to a potluck and made good choices.
Staying sugar free is getting easier. Got 30 min walking in. No video-workouts the last couple of days. Drinking tons of tea!
Did my homework-via twitter and family. Made some sugar free cookies when I baked cake for the rest of the family. Sugar is my biggest problem but I'm conquering it.
Thanks for this challenge!

Hope you get the car business sorted out. I think you had other problems you related also.
Sorry to hear about the almond milk in coffee. I think I might give up my cup of joe with that stuff in it.

Like Sheila, I drink my coffee black, no sugar. Too many year of living in countries where the milk could not be trusted....
I had my spinach salad with feta cheese today and I didn't really miss it - Yeah! Another hurdle overcome.
Making chicken stock from the leftover roasted chicken - the house smells sooo good!

Are you allowed unsweetened/ plain coconut milk? It's less gross than almond milk (which I don't like in tea, either--I'm used to unsweetened soya milk but it's not good, either).

I really don't mind my cofffee black - as long as it's GOOD coffee! I often take it black, if the only thing available is half and half. Otherwise, i use skim milk.

I love my coffee black - no creamers / milk / powder etc and no sugar. I remember it took me a couple of days to get accustomed to it, but haven't looked back since

No hard cheese today
Small quantity of melted Mozzarella on vegetables

Finished the chocolate - why oh why do Swiss visitors always bring Lindt chox :) ??
