23 and High Cholesterol

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

As you can tell by the title, I have recently gotten some alarming health news from my doctor. I am 23 years old and have dangerously high cholesterol - so high in fact, that if I don't get it under control with diet and exercise, and SOON my doctor says she will need to put me on medication. Can you imagine that? 23 years old and on prescription cholesterol reducers... WOW! What a wake up call!

Since the move, and the start of my new job, I have not had the time to go to the gym AT ALL - and with winter set in, feel absolutely no desire to go outside to get my 30 min/3x weekly. And so, as a result of that and eating bagels/tim hortons almost EVERY day - I have packed on another 10 lbs - all in the first month since starting my job! I even had to size up my wedding band and my engagement ring as they were cutting off my circulation!

My new years resolution is to get my health under control - not necessarily to get thin, just to get healthy. I have started by completely cutting out Tim Horton's. Now just to increase my fibre intake to start reducing that Cholesterol!

Will start blogging again, and trying to log my foods as best as I can!

Happy 2013 to all my sparkfriends!

xoxo Megz

I remember my wake up call. I was 21 years old. I was 465 pounds. I never noticed. If I did noticed I just ate some more.

My very healthy, or at least I thought was healthy, 26 year old cousin was making cookies with her kids, my mother, my aunt and myself. She drank a little sip of regular Pepsi and died.

It turned out that she had just got the news she was diabetic not even a few days before. She seem fine to me. She wasn't even close to being as heavy as me. She was probably right under 200 pounds. I didn't know much about the disease. Her sugar went to 1600!

It was hard for me to lose her.

If she didn't pass I might have. Her death saved my life.
