I have been trying really hard to track all the food I eat, I have made a huge effort to be mindful while preparing meals to not poke a few bites in my mouth or taste and re taste what I am cooking.....I have weighted my food when ever possible....measuring is good but weighing is better....

point at hand...I measure a tablespoon of fresh ground peanut butter for my snack....calories 85....but on my new plan I decided to weigh that tablespoon....21 grams.....ohhhhhhhhhhh...21 grams of peanut butter is 97 might not seem like the end of the world but then I got to wondering about other things I measure and I was very surprised....most everything I measured was heavier than what the label gram weight was....

emoticon ....I thought I was counting every calorie....I don't want to bore you with each thing I weighted but turns out I was getting between 150 and 300 more calories than I tracked, then given the extra nibbles and taste while preparing meals....I could have eaten an extra 500 calories a day...
that can add up those pounds in a hurry and given the fact I am not working right now, so less calories burned....

WELL YOU GET THE PICTURE..... emoticon , so for 3 day I have weighted most everything I have eaten...I have seen the scale going down already.....

So for me it's now going to be to weigh my food, not measure.....

    WooHoo Kitt! Congratulations on the detective work!

Some of my friends and family are so amused when I use my digital food scale and measuring spoons when I portion out my food... if they only knew (or cared).

I even bought myself a second digital food scale and extra measuring spoons to use when I travel or visit family.

I'm worth it. And so are you!

    I prefer the scale to measuring for exactly the reason you say. And, when I weigh my peanut butter/jam/etc. directly into the bowl/bread/whatever, I don't have an extra spoon to clean! I even weigh my Greek yogurt instead of measuring it, and fruit too, now that I think about it. So, I often enter foods into Sparky by gram weight instead of measuring. I also prefer grams to ounces, because you can measure much more accurately in grams (28 grams to the ounce).

    Little by little, calories start to add up to a BIG number. Weighing everything -although a pain- is really the only way to make sure...

    Isn't it surprising -- Beth said about weighing her food too ... think I am running out to buy a scale for weighing everything that goes in the mouth

    Ah Ha! You've found a bug in your plan. Good going.

I learned to weigh food from owning tiny dogs. Just a couple extra pieces of kibble here and there made a huge difference in their weight. I weigh everything and I've seen recipes on tv where they go by weight too.

So glad you got rid of the bug in your plan & it's showing. emoticon

    I very rarely use measurements like cups, its not something the UK does anyway, but I always weigh things on an electronic scale, far more accurate as you are right... those calories DO add up.
