First workouts are the worst

I was pretty determined this year to get healthy and lose some weight. So I started searching for exercise equipment for the house. I do have a gym membership but it just takes me so much energy to convince myself to go there after work. Usually I can talk myself out of it pretty darn quickly.
So I bought an elliptical trainer through CraigsList.com (great place to find exercise equipment). For $100 I got a small elliptical that fits perfect in the corner of my living room. Its in a spot where I can watch tv and workout! Yay!
Last night my plan was simple. I was to go straight home, change into workout clothes, do dishes that have been stacking up and get dinner in the oven. While dinner was cooking, I was going to hop on the elliptical and get in a 30 minute workout.
That was the plan at least.
I did go straight home and change into my workout clothes. I did do a load of dishes and get dinner in the oven. I even hopped on the elliptical. But there was no way in Hell I was going to do 30 minutes on that machine!
I really thought that this workout on the elliptical was going to be quit easy. I have done 30 minute workouts before. Plus this machine is a BASIC elliptical and the women who sold it to me couldn't have been in better shape then me.
Was I ever wrong!
After 2 minutes on that machine, I was sweating and out of breath. Really??!! I was determined to get in a good workout. But after just 5 minutes I felt like I was going to throw up and my heart was jumping in my chest. I realized that 30 minutes was not such a great idea. I decided 10 minutes was a good starting point for me.
Even though I stopped several times to catch my breath, I did 10 minutes on there and burned 104 calories! Yay me! I could not get over how intense this workout was for me but kept trying to remind myself that its been many months since I was working out that hard.
Tonight I plan to do another 10 minutes at the very least. I will increase the time when I do have to stop during the workout. It would be GREAT to do 30 minutes but for now, I will start slowly. At least I am being active.
