Mindful & Intuitive Eating

Today I joined the Mindfulness Eating Challenge. This seems to me to be very strongly aligned with Intuitive Eating.
Today I feel like I did really well trying to be more aware when I am eating or deciding what to eat. Something I want to continue to improve.

Sitting to eat, with food on a plate where appropriate.
Assessing my feelings before I & during eating.
- am I hungry (or tired, bored, thirsty, unhappy)?
- what do I feel like eating?
- am I being influenced by others' eating?
Thinking as I eat about the flavours, textures, temperature of the food, my surroundings etc.

It sounds simple - but I find it a challenge to remember to think about what is important to me during the day - and get to the end of the day before I think properly.

Definitely a work in progress.

    Have you read the book Intuitive Eating? It's a great foundation. I love mindfulness / mindful eating - the intuitive part takes a bit more work really because it's about trusting yourself to know when you are hungry (for reals) and when you are satisfied (not full!) also the distinction between emotional / biological hunger and feeding your non-biological hunger in more nourishing ways.

    I've recently wrote a book about addressing the underlying emotional / psychological side of this it's called Eat, Guilt, Repent, Repeat.

    Once you get this - it's life changing - because your awareness spreads into every area of your life!

    I have really been trying this week to be mindful of what I am eating and only eating till I am satisfied. I knew I had made some progress when I ate half of what was on my plate and saved the rest for another meal. This was a big step for me.

    I have a daily intention to eat seated, slowly and mindfully. I'd love to join this challenge. Is it on SP?

    That would be a challenge for me too. Things to think about before diving into a box of wheat thins or carton of ice cream.

    Sounds like a challenge I need to take. I'm not always mindful of what I eat.

    One of the advantages of planning is that eating must be mindful in advance. The only thing I DON"T have to think about is what's for dinner. I've already done that.

    Mindful eating has aways been a challenge for me. It is a good thing to work toward, however! Good for you!!
